Re: Which brand and type?
Keep the case, memory, drives, and maybe the CPU. I vote to trash the rest; it's a very old PC.

Any updates on the “higher resolution ESR meter”?

Re: The infamous 2 seconds to black
From my very limited knowledge, 3 main things that go bad. 1 a CCFL tube, you'll see black ends. 2 a bad cap, they're usually bulging. 3 a bad Scotty diode, these guys turn gray or start cracking.
Oh ya, let's not forget a blown fuse.Last edited by MegaOne302; 06-10-2010, 04:17 PM.

Re: ok to use 1500 uf to replace 820uf?
Yes, don't worry it'll work fine. I've done it on a few motherboards and LCD inverters with no problems. Just make sure the temp rating (usually 85c or 105c) meets or exceeds the original. Also, if they're close to each other make sure you have the space before you start soldering.

Always replace caps with ones of the uf same rating or slightly above, NEVER lower.
Always replace caps with ones of the uf same rating or slightly above, NEVER lower. Same thing goes with the voltage; a bad 25v cap can be replaced with a 35v / 50v cap as long as it fits and you have clearance for other components / casing. Make sure you match or exceed the temp rating also; it will usually be 85c or 105c.

Re: NEC MultiSync LCD1770V
Hi Bill,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390001594791&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
The bulbs came out of a NEC LCD1760V, but will work as replacements for all NEC1770**. I used these CCFL myself to repair a LCD1770GX that I found on the street. Also, the seller says that the bulbs are used, but they are in very good shape with no black ends. Hope this helps…Re: NEC MultiSync LCD1770V<br /> <b...MEWNX:IT

Re: NEC MultiSync LCD1770V
Take a look at the 4 CCFL bulbs, two on top and two on the bottom. If the ends of the bulbs are black they may on the way out and tripping a safety.
Be very careful when you check the bulbs, the layers of LCD screen itself tend to shift when checking / replacing the bulbs.
Also, if you need bulbs, I know where to get all 4 CCFL for around $15.00Last edited by MegaOne302; 09-20-2009, 07:11 PM.

Re: Identifying Soldering Faults
Check this site out; they have mostly every type of PCB defect possible.

Re: HALP! Where to store all of these Capacitors?
Nothing, that's what I use, picked up three dozen from Lowes for a little over a buck each.
They're the clear plastic type by Rubbermaid called (Clear Impressions type S).
These Shoe Boxes are good for the larger stuff and see-through ESD Zip Bags are great for organizing the smaller stuff....

Re: SRF10100C 100V 10A Dual Schottky Barrier Power Rectifier
Hi Gianni,
The SR3100 I used has the same 0.85 Vf as the SRF10100C. But I do understand what you're saying about the junctions causing resistance. Is the Ir better on the (SR3100 30ma@125c) then the (SRF10100C 10ma@125c)?
This is why I love electronics, the learning never ends…
Thanks for the Sub P/N,
Joe

Re: HP w2007 PTB-1773 - Where to start?
The meter is set to read amperage not voltage. Move the Black test lead to the center/common socket. And the Red test lead to the voltage socket....Last edited by MegaOne302; 08-23-2009, 09:33 PM.

Re: SRF10100C 100V 10A Dual Schottky Barrier Power Rectifier
Hi Bill,
Thanks for the replay…
I had to get this LCD going ASAP so I subbed the SRF10100C (after all, its 2 Schottky diodes in one package). I used 4 SR3100 3A 100V schottky diodes running 2 parallel sets of 6A 100V for each leg. Let's see how long it holds.
Thanks guys,
Joe
