Yeah. Microsoft done fucked up again... No surprises.
Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

I remember a 'security update' a few years ago for vista, W7, and S2K8 that broke a bunch of TrueType fonts, they would display as garble and not legible, and they were common ones, it hosed a lot of programs that used them.... Of all things for a security update to break....friggin' fonts!!

On the rare occasion I sell a system, I always toss Ubuntu 16.04LTS on it unless they specify they want windows...at;east with Linux, I can update it without worrying too much about things being broken upon reboot. It's sad that MS has gotten this bad, I've always been a windows brat.

Zenbook UX31 not working, unusual damage on board
            by paparazzo79
            Hi guys.
My laptop fell onto the concrete and since then first time I plugged the charger laptop turned on without me even touching it...next time it won't turn at all and it is simply dead. With it, it's charger is dead too.
I opened the laptop and see unusual damage. Now I am beginner in all of this but to me this looks like water damage, or?
Which is kinda unusual since it was not in contact with moisture or water.
            What is damaged here?...

            MS-14C4 unusual chip
            by kalemaroni
This laptop was brought in with no power and had been worked on in another country and they hadn't been successful. The battery and CMOS chip was disconnected.

I plugged it in and checked the thermal camera and one chip (TPS62134CRGTR) was glowing near the battery connector. I removed the chip only to find that it looked like it never belonged there in the first place. Is there something I'm missing here or has the previous shop replaced a completely different chip?

Surface Pro 7 - SSD heating up in an unusual pattern, stuck at boot
            by Prott
            Hello fellow Badcappers,
I have a Surface Pro 7 that's turning on (CPU heating up, USB powered, LCD powered) stuck on a boot logo. BIOS should be correct (ME cleaned, worked in a different S7Pro), no shorts. Only thing that seems a bit weird is the pattern in which the SSD chip is heating up. Is that normal behaviour? Rest of the SSD is 10 degrees colder.

I have replacement SSDs, but it's quite a hassle to reball and install them, so I would like to avoid doing this step if possible.

            Thank you!

            Interesting unusual Panel Defect ?
            by Ancient1
            Hi

Pilot PD43S9HE Led TV . Panel model: See in photos

Photos tell it all really. ( added Logo image photo )
The bulge in the area before the panel Matrix .
To me it looks like a local short that heated inside.

Should I waste my time in flipping the panel , as if this issue can be repaired ?
The distribution board at this end looks ok , though I did not measure anything

            What are your thoughts ?

            Cheers

Replace Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor on Asrock Z97E-ITX/ac
            by MrCommunistGen
I initially posted this as a thread on Linus Tech Tips. I got some feedback, but not really to a level that gives me confidence in my next steps. Then I remembered about this forum that I'd used as a great reference for recapping an amp so I figured I'd reach out here. My question below is a combination of my original question as well as all of my findings in the other forum:

I just received a used Asrock Z97E-ITX/ac board that I purchased on eBay. According to the seller the board works. During unboxing I noticed that one of the Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (I think it is...
