Re: The 2016 Operating System Thread

    Happy New Year to everyone!

I have Windows 7 on my home "workstation", and Windows 2012 R2 on my dedicated servers.

I'm quite happy with Windows 7 and don't see the need to upgrade to a newer operating system.

I'm still running server s2k8 as my main OS...but to clients, I still promote Win7.

Im using Windows 10 on my HTPC which I used to run my Tv, well I can only say it sucks ass ! I upgraded from 7 originally which worked fast and smoothly now on 10 my computer has been so glitchy and slow, more cuss words have been said at that computer than ever before after going to Windows crappy 10. Suppose it might work better if I installed it fresh.

All my other computers in the house are on Windows 7 and soon the HTPC when I get an SSD for it

on my gaming laptop, i'll probably get w10 a little while before the free offer ends (I still want to see what they're going to end up doing with it before switching over). Simply because this laptop was designed for win8.1 and 10, and has some issues with 7

on my work laptop, win7, forever

Linux + Win7 dualbooted on my laptops (x64 when possible), Win 7 on my workstations, and I was running modded 8.1 on a tablet, which ultimately acted a lot like windows 7 after the tweaks. 8.1 is a crapfest out of the box, but some mods and tweaks make it shine (especially on tablets).

Still using Linux(Gentoo) as main OS as for the past decades.
I have picked up a tablet that has Win8.1 installed as Linux does not want to run correctly on it, so I'm stuck with using that if I have to use the tablet. My laptop is dual boot Win7/Linux (Gentoo) with Linux being the default OS. Windows only for emergency use...

Yeah, seems like it is going that way unfortunately. :\
Not for me, though. If I was forced to use a phone/tablet, I probably would go Amish or something and stop using all internet / tech stuff.

Linux (Ubuntu 14.04.03 LTS) on our PCs and WinXP limping along on an old Dell laptop that will probably be removed from service this year.

Windows 7 on the laptop and Windows 10 on the desktop. I needed something to learn the Windows 10 common problems with and desktop was perfect.

Server runs debian 7.6 but that's because I'm too lazy to upgrade something that only runs an IRCd on an Intel Galileo (lots of potential to break the OS).

Windows 10 came on the laptop, and 7 on three desktops. The desktops will get updated to 10 when I switch them to SSDs.

Linux is great for servers but would not suit my needs as a desktop OS.

Windows XP PRO SP3 OEM. Does everything that I want it to do. Win Vista SP2 just for DirectX 10. win 7 Pro when Microshaft quits screwing it up with free 10. Windows 2K and 98SE for gaming. And going to play with some Linux distros.

YAY! I'm not alone in this thread anymore.

I feel exactly the same way with my Windows XP boxes too. What a trusty and venerable OS. Oh, and now that Microsoft doesn't support it anymore and that there are no more security updates, everything seems to run better than it ever was.

I think this best describes my feeling about Windows XP:
