    HSF type: software
    HCF type: chip
    atleast i think it's that way around.

        Actually I was referring to "maybe it's free now", which it does not appear to be.

            it is free now.

            NOTE: As dial-up modems are now mostly obsolete, these drivers are no longer being actively developed. The OEM version of the HSF driver which does not require any license key is now available for your convenience.

              full hardware modem --> controller + DSP + DAA, no drivers required
              HCF modem --> DSP + DAA, no controller, drivers required
              HSF modem --> DAA, no controller or DSP, drivers required

              So both the HCF and HSF modems are "softmodems", although the HSF is by far the worst.
