Re: Please help identify this grease.

It`s nice to see this thread got back on track of electronics industry. Sry but some of those links to some colorful machinery greases were way off topic.

Dow Molykote EM-30L is good input here. I'll look into that.
By brief search it seems to be another product lacking in my region.

A lot of the greases have the same compounds in them just used in different industries. If you can not find it in your area just email Dow Corning and see if they can help you some how. Perhaps they would know of a similar product that you might be able to get. Also, many of these manufacturers make products for other companies that sell it under their name. To BudM I love the information.

I kept these greases from SONY training class to become authorized repair center in the 80's (I kept lots of stuff!). They also supply the grease when you get the gear replacement kits.

They are still as soft as they were when I got them, >30 years ago!
The thicker stuff that SONY and others were using (semi clear) in the CD changers are the worst, they are more like glue when they get old.

Re: Please help identify this grease.

From what I read it says the stuff that hardens is the Moly grease it is usually black or gray in color. Not the Molykote. The experts on grease are the chemist at Dow Corning so if you want to be sure I would ask them.

the stuff that went hard was a translucent amber colour - i spent enough time removing the stuff!!
