Re: 3 different PSUs, still cant get Motherboard to stay on

i have a FIC VA503 that has been running almost 24/7 since 99'
had to replace the videocard twice, and the cpu fan a few times, but other than that - solid.
    it runs my fileserver.

you get a mug, put half inch of dish washing liquid in it, top off wih boiling or very hot wter.
stir it and pour it over the board in the sink.
then scrub it with a soft paintbrush and rinse under the tap till all the soap is clearly gone.
then shake the water off and force-dry it with a fan heater or hairdryer.

the force drying is the important part - standing water causes corrosion.
no leaving it outside in the sun type crap.

btw, this is a common trick with dusty or nichotine stained boards.
just one thing, dont forget to remove any chipset heatsinks and clean any paste off with IPA first.
and dont forget to put them back afterwards!!

      wow thanks, definitely saving info

      appreciate it!

I know this might sound kinda obvious, but did you check the electrolytic capacitors on the board to see if any of them looked physically bad? You know, rounded tops instead of flat tops, leaking stuff on the board, etc. I've attached a picture from Wikipedia that shows swollen bad capacitors. I know to truly test for bad caps, you need an ESR meter. If you don't have an ESR meter though, a physical inspection wouldn't really hurt anything...just a thought.

How did you fix it? There were bad caps weren't there?
