3 different PSUs, still cant get Motherboard to stay on

the Motherboard ASUS P5QL keeps shutting off

tried 3 different power supplies, last one was a Corsair 650 but it didnt have a plug i needed.

it turns on and shuts off immediately. started from CPU, took off old thermal paste since there is a Thermal Intake CPU fan is on there, replaced compound with Artic Sliver, checked all connections

    any help/advice is greatly appreciated

Case is Apevia x-cruiser2 and Graphic Card is Sapphire Radeon

    unplug all cards, and memory.
and i do mean *all*, you dont need a picture for this test.
and unplug any hardrives & usb / ps2stuff too.

so it's just the motherboard & cpu connected to the psu.
then see if it turns on and stays on.

no luck, unplugged everything but the OEM CPU Fan and power button

if i keep pushing power button continuously it stays on and thought maybe a power button short?

unplug the power button and start it by shorting the pins on the board if you think that.
also, maybe test or replace the battery.

because other than that, it's not looking good.

oh - do you have another fan?
some bioses will shut the system down if they cant detect the cpu fan spinning.

tried shortening the pins, same thing...turns on, then turns off

the TI CPU fan comes with a white connector with only 3 pins and i put in the OEM one with the 4 pins

so try another battery and if that makes no difference we need to suspect the cpu or motherboard.

If I may offer a 'primitive' fix I think I read about on this forum for that generation of Asus mothrboard:

spray every inch of your board with water and then dry it thoroughly with high-pressure air (Don't waste your money on compressed air, just use a gasoline funnel at the end of a vacuum hose), and see if that fixes it.

                        I didn't make that up.

i cant see what that would do.

not saying there isnt something on the board, but plain water?
i would expect you atleast need to do the old dish-washing liquid and painbrush method.

picked up a micro MSI ATX Mobo and seems that was the problem...stays on but gotta check out Hard Drive and other components

any way to fix the Asus Mobo?

yea, you can wash pcb's but you must unplug anything and everything you can especially the battery.

you get a mug, put half inch of dish washing liquid in it, top off wih boiling or very hot wter.
stir it and pour it over the board in the sink.
then scrub it with a soft paintbrush and rinse under the tap till all the soap is clearly gone.
then shake the water off and force-dry it with a fan heater or hairdryer.

the force drying is the important part - standing water causes corrosion.
no leaving it outside in the sun type crap.

btw, this is a common trick with dusty or nichotine stained boards.
just one thing, dont forget to remove any chipset heatsinks and clean any paste off with IPA first.
and dont forget to put them back afterwards!!

A Gnat, a tiny insect, died on my P5Q-E a couple years ago and shorted out the board. After removing the offending critter, the board is up and running right now. The only time it has even hiccuped. I wonder how many other manufacturers boards can run for 8 or 9 years with so little trouble.

                                          Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this...

                                          Hi everyone 😀,

I'm here today to ask for help with repairing the motherboard of a Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH.

To give you some context, I'm passionate about computer repair so much so that I've invested in a lot of tools and started practicing on dead and old hardware. I've been learning how to solder and desolder components, mostly focusing on phone repairs.

Recently, I bought a broken Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH for just €150, and there are two main reasons why I made this purchase:
                                          1. I already own the exact same model, but its plastic chassis is badly damaged.
                                          ...

Subject is a blank screen issue in HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D version laptop with motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901 MB-A02. Production year is 2012. This one is a 2nd hand motherboard which I could use it for few months only. Suddenly no output from the internal display and also no signal from HDMI port then Windows out of order after few boots.

Caps lock working normally and no HP's caps-lock warning blinks. Making a hard reset and replacing the RAM sticks or using different slots didn't help.

Fans are spinning. Blindly could install windows11 and got the device manager...

                                          ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap

Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

                                          CPU VRM area up close…...

Hi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
                                          power on.

                                          Here are some examples :

(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
                                          switching supply area).
                                          (N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
                                          than 6.3 V.)

1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
                                          I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.
                                          3300 microF/6.3 V. x 4 replaced by 3300 microF/6.3 V. (KYOCERA...
