    Determine Fuse Size?

Have a DV7 notebook with LED display and no backlight.

SMD labeled JS8 below the left side of the connector. How do I determine the max amperage? I know I can remove the fuse and jump the pads to get it working but if there is another surge it will destroy the mobo and/or panel.

The panel in the laptop is an LG LP173WD1 (TL) (E1)

LED Power Input Voltage 7v/12v/20v MIN/TYPICAL/MAX
    LED Power Input Current NA/20mA/25mA
    LED Power Comsumption NA/5.7W/6W
    LED Power Inrush Current 1800mA

20V fuse and 2A to cover inrush current ?

    Any help appreciated.

    Re: Determine Fuse Size?

Well, if you can't find a datasheet for it you can desolder the old one, solder two wires, connect them to a multimeter and check what kind of an amperage is going to the screen (you should set the brightness to max).
Btw are you sure that the fuse is the problem? Recently I fixed a dv6 on which the backlight wasn't working and it turned out that the cable wasn't properly inserted into the panel.

Are you sure Js8 is for the fuse, I see JS6, JS7 close by.

        have you jumpered the jumper???
those jumpers are common on boards, you should be able to find one on any scrap M/B

          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

A funny fuse story – Lumix LX100 II
          by corrize
Hello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
          The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping...

When the set came in it was dead. Fuse was open primary side and the power mosfet was shorted. So I ordered a new power supply. Now it turns on, only displays "Hitachi" and then power off red and blue led flashing.

I had to modify the 0ohm resistors in the led backlight of the new PS like the original power supply.
Is there any variants on 17IPS71 power supply's?

Samsung UE46ES8000 Blown fuse but no other signs of short
          by jesterace
Hi I wonder if anyone might be able to steer me in the right direction. I have this Samsung UE46ES8000 TV and it went bang during use. The main fuse on the PSU board is open. I've checked every diode/mosfet/transistor I can see and nothing appears to be short to cause the fuse to go. The DC output of the bridge rectifier is not short either. I've seen online that some of these models are known for having their PFC mosfet or other mosfets shorting and blowing the fuse but i'm not seeing that here. If anyone aware of these models having any issues to cause this? I'm reluctant to just replace the...
