    ZD-915 not sucking (not clogged)

I have a ZD-915 de-soldering gun, i am not getting any suction, there is no clog and i get next to no suction at the nozzle, i have suction at the back of the gun

i was trying to find the issue when i noticed this part does not fit snug around the tip going to the top
my nozzle has a diameter of 0.1" and my rubber part linked below has a diameter of 0.155"

    https://eleshop.eu/rubber-sealing-ring-zd-915.html

Am i missing a part or has the rubber melted?

i dont know what your describing,
    so i'll describe the gun.
the glass chamber has a rubber top that holds the internal spring,
in the front of the gun where it fits to the metal tube is a rubber washer it presses against.
the rear of the gun that presses against the tube also has a sort-of o-ring that seals against the back of the glass tube.
so there are a total of 3 rubber parts between the metal tube and the rubber hose coupling.

thats the rebuild/upgrade kit in that photo - the whole pack is under $5
that washer is 1.6mm thick, 14mm diameter and the hole is 1.9mm but remember it has to withstand a lot of heat

+10 shipping and 5 months... then still does not ship from the US

                https://eleshop.eu/set-of-spare-part...5-zd-8915.html

would cost $30 shipped, but they have it....

i can't find anything in the US...

maybe i can use a high temp gasket maker tube of stuff? or will that be too soft? or stay a liquid?

What made the "front holder seal" hole so big? It looks punched out. You have to be really careful putting the filter back in, otherwise the heater tube cuts the seal up. It's just rubber.
This looks like a chinese knockoff of a Hakko 809 gun, seal A1011. Would be good to compare sizes to see if that stuff can work. What is the ID of the glass?

The heater exit tube gets really HOT, almost solder temps. You could put a piece of silicone tubing over the heater tube to increase diameter, but then what.

                    Glass Tube has OD = 0.87" (22mm); ID 0.726" (18.44mm); length of 1.858" (47.2mm)

The OD of the rubber on the inside of the tube that holes the spring is 0.737" (18.72mm)

Thanks for the measurements. I checked my 809 gun (is 802 with upgrade) on 470 station and the A1011 it seems a bit different.
The heater exit tube is 2.50mm OD, seal inlet hole 2.8mm, OD at that end is 14.8mm. Seal OD to fit inside pipe 18.0mm, overall OD 21.8mm. The filter pipe has an o-ring and lip, it is not just a glass cylinder.

The ZD-915 seems unpopular or old or something. Look at other models and makes because they are all copies of each other.
Pro'sKit Taiwan SS-331 or the 948, 993 etc. I think they are the same.

I wish this seal piece was not made of crappy rubber, it seems to dry out and shrink. Silicone would be really nice. But I also gouge it somehow putting the filter cart in it seems.

My old Hakko desolating gun still has all original parts besides the filter in the round canister. And I use that thing quite a bit.

This is a very common failure of the flat rubber washer you are lucky if it last 200 hundred hours of use this issue is that it has to fit tight so you do not loose suction so each time you take the cylinder out to clean it it stretches the rubber hole in the middle of it the same thing happens to the rubber seal that holds the spring in place to collect the solder this one last longer but it tears as well in fact I need to order some myself because I am on the last one unless I find one that got misplaced somehow

I ordered mine from eBay from this seller not from this seller before but they were from Spain because I needed both the spring rubber washer and the flat washer more importantly but I need to go to this gasket company here in Jacksonville Florida and see if they have this type of rubber and if they have the punch this size because this will be very important for a good suction seal for the vacuum pump so it suck from the tip and not from around the tube on the heater element

                          https://www.ebay.com/itm/233916270882

If anyone one interested in the glass tubes I have several of them I do not use them I use the plastic tubes and the full springs not one for the glass tubes just PM and we can discuss the details there

I will have to wait until I get the replacement ones because I have not found a new one left in my parts bin and I do not want to have them made with an old one I will see if I have one on a new replacement gun if I do and I have time to go by there before I go to work I will see if they can make them for me or not

I wonder how much room- how thick could a washer be there?
There is silicone gasket material, or silicone electrical tape is thin maybe 12mil thick self-fusing only 356°F/180°C rated.

I know the heater exit tube needs to be hot or else it clogs with solder there.

the original is 1.6mm - i wouldnt go thicker because it has to not get the glass stuck in the unit

                                          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

                                          ZD desoldering station pump rebuild
                                          by stj
                                          just did one.
                                          works great.

                                          so here's the discoveries.
the pump "modules" have 4 parts, the main body, the outside bit, the inside bit - screwed to the main body, and the diaphram.
the failure is the inside bit, it has a rubber coating for some reason that becomes tacky and breaks down - contaminating the diaphram.
so you need to clean everything to get rid of all the tacky black stuff.
                                          then reassemble it.
                                          *BUT*
you must put the 2 screws into the assembly only finger-tight.
if you tighten it properly the valves dont work....

Epic failure of the screen suction holders
                                          by jason123
Just sharing a failure of the suction cups used for screen removal. I don't know if these require special maintenance, but they came with no literature.

Today i was repairing a Vizio E70-E3 (70" 4k TV) with bad backlight. One of the suction cups failed and the panel hit the ground and shattered. I got these from SJ so they're supposed to be decent quality.

Anything you guys do to maintain the rubber on these? I wipe them with damp rag before use, then wipe dry. Any hints / tips?
