Re: Lesson in dust cleaning
Surprisingly, I have. I had to fix a computer that had malware. It also was never maintained since they even bought the desktop, which was 2009! Three years of dust accumulation in the computer case and the power supply in a dusty basement. The system, including the power supply's fan, ran pretty loud. After cleaning it out, the system was quiet.
The power supply also looked like new, too, after cleaning it out. For the record, it was a Lite-On 250W power supply. Though, the power supply I saw was worse than the one in the OP, but better than the one with the dryer lint. So surprised as to how that system still ran at all.Recovering a BEFSR41 v1 and v2 router from solid red DIAG Light
I have two v2s and one v1.
I am still looking at these boards nearly every day.

Re: Lesson in dust cleaning
I've seen them get that dusty, it takes much longer for the units with big fans though. Those older PSU's though with two 80mm fans? Those get dusty in a hurry! And you know how lazy people are, they NEVER clean out their computers. And even the people that do are too scared to open their PSU and properly clean itComment

Re: Lesson in dust cleaning
back in the day I got my first stationary computer in i guess 2001, there was a seal/sticker on the back of the computer so it would void the warranty if computer was opened. therefore i have never cleaned it myself untill some time in 2006, i guess it would get pretty dirty. The shop that sold the computer was doing upgrades for me as well. Not because I didn't know how/want it, just because my parents would have killed me for voiding the warranty as they were sponsoring it. So it is not always the laziness that makes the internals dusty. But most of the time it isComment

by howardc64Just did this on my 2021 13" MBP M1. Dust-Gate design flaw still present. Depending on cleanliness of the operation environment (often eating while using MB is probably the worst). Periodic cleaning is probably warranted.
Note this is quite challenging effort. One misstep will damage the LCD flex and render it useless. So take it to someone more experienced if uncertain.

I have a Quantum SuperLoader robotic tape library that uses an IBM LTO 7 tape drive which is constantly complaining that it needs cleaning. If you insert a cleaning tape, it performs the clean and resets the cleaning counter to 0 hours. It should only require cleaning every 50 or so working hours but after as little as just 1 hours use it requests cleaning. We've purchased a new cleaning tape along with new LTO backup tapes but that has not resolved the problem.
I have taken the library apart and can see no noticeable signs of dust inside. I have removed the tape drive from the... -
by flat-eartherI have a Hoover FM216LI cordless vacuum which isn't charging its internal battery.
I opened up the unit, and it has 6x Samsung ICR18650-22P cells connected in series.
5 cells were at about 3.3-3.1V. one was at 2.4V, so I assumed this cell was bad that's why the vacuum wasn't charging so I replaced it with another 18650, but after that the problem still persists, the vacuum turns on a bit and then cuts out since the batteries are empty.
So I think the over discharged battery wasn't the culprit, it was a symptom of the unit not being able to charge its batteries.... -
by momakaI know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.
For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

by rumi409 Hi,
I'm trying to resurrect a LG OLED C1 TV that has some panel banding. I used the TCON error bypass to get a picture. I was able to update the firmware as well. But when I performed a pixel cleaning to try to get the banding out, it made the image significantly worse. I tried to undo the effects of the pixel cleaning by performing a factory reset and IN_Stop, but that didn't work. Any way to reset pixel cleaning data?...1 Photo - Loading...
