Re: Imac 24 PSU Liteon PA-3241-02A
I am not familiar with imac power supplies.
Are you sure it only has 12V output? no standby voltage? no other outputs?
-12V was given as an example.
Check voltages as they are without plugging to MB, then with plugging and so on.

Re: Imac 24 PSU Liteon PA-3241-02A
i wouldn't say so.
It would trip the OC protection IMHO.
You mentioned that it does work fine for few minutes. So turn it on without the mb and check all the rails for out of tolerance voltage. Including low power -12 and the like (not sure what imac voltages are)
if they all are fine, try plugging it to mb starting the computer and check which ones are out of tolerance. But limit the time for that as it will bur again.
I had a psu where i shorted -12 rectifier and was unable to spot it as it...

something on the output partially shorted/leaky?

Re: High Capacity Cell Phone Battery
Ok, so just keep putting batteries in parallel until you run out of space. It is not clear which form factor you are limited to.
Batteries can be tested with cheapo charger/discharger, but the questions is how long it will work in that capacity. Cheapo chinese "best quality good battery manufacturer" are not known of products that keep their capacity for significant amount of time.
I mean, all lithium batteries are decreasing their capacity over the time. But crappy ones do that in like a month....

Re: High Capacity Cell Phone Battery
i can't really follow what your problem is anymore really? You can basically use any li-ion battery if that is 2pin configuration and voltages match (4.2 vs 4.1).

Re: Help, SMPS Question
post pictures and schematic so. else don't expect too much help as it is all very vague.

Re: High Capacity Cell Phone Battery
i wouldn't buy batteries from alibaba and ebay. BTDT many times, got disappointed.
I would rather get high quality panasonic / sanyo 18650 cells, even used if that was the case.
What tracker do you use?

Re: Dell inspiron 531 4gb ram 64 bit OS running very slowly
ask your friend that has some knowledge in troubleshooting to look at it;
sorry but as I see you don't have the basic knowledge to do that, so our help will most likely be useless.
did you check hard drives health status? there was a tab in hd tune with health. why didn't you post that?
cmos battery is very cheap and easy to change.

Re: A little guide to scavenging toroids, inductors, transformers, and magnet wire.
there is a special toroid tester which can test its flux, right?
i have inductance meter, that is a good starting point.
Re: my post above, i have just unwound -12v rail and that was it. no more rails were present there apart from the original +12v rail

Re: Corsair CMPSU-550vx / vx55w hack
Yes, I agree, but I will just use whatever I can find in my trash pile
Actually, CWT has used mag amps for all 3 main rails.. including +12v. but that one might stay with sense wire, not sure how adjustment will be implemented....Last edited by domas; 02-28-2015, 09:51 AM.

Re: LC Power Ozeanos Metatron 650W - fan not spinning
well the little board is nightmare to access, so you might want to desolder secondary rectifiers and remove heatsink and look at the board
My guess is that little board is responsible for controlling the fan. Does it have a connector for thermistor on the board? could it be that the two connectors are swapped around?
I recently had to remove a daughterboard like this - damn the main board is two sided, and I do posses soldering iron and desoldering pump only. This seems like one sided board though, should...Last edited by domas; 02-26-2015, 08:30 AM.

Re: The best Sun Pro you've ever seen
Strange. Did you change 5vSB caps?
Idiotic design if it does so.

Re: Corsair CMPSU-550vx / vx55w hack
Protections:
Yes, the protections had to go. As I have told, this chip really needs 12V, and it would shout down the supply if the voltage supply was higher and/or lower. It is easier to use lm339 or similar (maybe 431 voltage reference or just a zener) to adjust to max Voltage of supply to disable PSON in case voltage is exceeded. OC protections are not really needed anymore. UV protection had to go, as the supply will be adjustable from very low voltage.
Re: regulation. There already is an optocoupler with 431-alike...

Re: Corsair CMPSU-550vx / vx55w hack
In the first 2 pictures you can see +3,3 and +5v rectification components arranged to show you how it was implemented. might have swapped some around, can't remember, they are very similar
The two active components next to each rectification assembly are sense/feedback/whatever controls. Probably +5v and +3,3 V regulation as well, as the output of the trafo had to be split accordingly.
The small pile of components is -12v rail and some other components (like a diode between +3,3 and +5v rail)...
