    Dell uses quality caps?

I got a old Dell Dimension 8100 in from a friend for servicing. The system would power on for a minute max and then turn off. I'd figure I would take a look inside and look for the usual suspects of failure (CPU fan, bad caps, etc.). Upon opening the case I was pleasantly suprised to find that all the caps were quality japanese caps.

Caps on the mobo are Rubycon JXA, Oscon polymers, UCC polymers, and Sanyo's

Inside the PSU were UCC KY, Nichicon, Rubycon YXG

Was this system lucky in getting quality caps due to its age? How are the more recent Dell systems?

Oh yea forgot about the booting problem as first described. For some odd reason someone decided that a sleeve-bearing fan would be better than a ball-bearing fan inside a hot PSU.... Needless to say I'm suprised that the thermal protection saved the PSU. The cheapo sleeve bearing fan was replaced with a quality sunon dual ball bearing fan.

The P/S is from the Delta subsidiary, Newton Power. Whose P/S uses the OST?

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

I wasnt thinking about the power supply. But I have opened some up to see blown caps, don't recall brand, will look next time. The Dimension 4600 seems to be the popular one at the moment to have a dead ps.
