    People's expectations

Never ceases to surprise me what people want for nothing

Assume this guy wants something he can use to surf for porn http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/melbo...ter/1007824356

And he expects potential donors to email first, presumably so he can pick and choose

I think Gumtree is the brand eBay uses in Australia, for same demographic as Kijiji

                Re: People's expectations

This kind of stuff kind of hits a raw nerve, sort of.. Every now and then I get asked by individuals or businesses for recommendations for PC and network hardware and layout. I'll enthusiastically spend time doing a work-up quote to chase the business. Carefully tailoring it to what they need and then they thank me for my time and use my guidelines to buy something similar from elsewhere. I guess its all part and parcel of dealing with Joe Public and being in business but it gets old ya know ! ? I know how you feel with cap sales Topcat.
Now don't get me wrong, I know I have to expect this but its right in your face "Oh, thanks soooo much for your time and help but we decided to buy *ell. You were a great help though" Grrrrrr.

I ought to start charging for quotes and refund it on a sale.

On this opening topic though, you have to respect the ballsy way its asked "and by the way an LCD screen would be nice too" Haha !! Jeez.. Hey, even the Bible states "if you don't ask you don't get" (oversimplified). As part of my business I hang on to usable (and now these days thanks to you badcaps guys, fixable) components and assemble workable PCs and screens that other customers ask to be taken offsite for disposal. I'll knock together something usable and give it away. Its a nice feeling to be able to do it, but not in some egotistical kind of way.

Its funny though how the thought process runs (speaking from experience) we gladly give something back out of some feeling of goodwill or charity but get offended when directly asked for such or the by the manner in which its asked. Got to be done on my terms ? Yeah, ego. Darn.

                  Re: People's expectations

I "did it" once to a brick and mortar. Played around with a BSR Graphic EQ for a stereo, then my parents bought it out of a catalog.

Local camera shops are practically dead because of Target, Wal-Mart, and online from Beach Camera and others.

Heck, a couple of people even did it to me when I was at the strip mall tax preparation service in 2004. Basically got me to do their taxes for free. I don't know why we didn't crack down on that sort of thing........

(In an unrelated note, that equalizer would drop any signal sent thru it after a minute or two, and required a restart for another minute or two of music. 90-day warranty was expired. After it sat around a few years, I smashed it up with a hammer and threw it away. Today I maybe could have found bad soldering leading away from its PSU and fixed it.)

                      by abajor
                      I have an A2251 820-01949 which had a failed TPS62180.
I was fortunate enough to find the video on "Exploding USB-C" https://youtu.be/CAGnMR1aVuE?si=O1oYvAyNMeAr4dv4 what was shared here on the topic.

I was wondering if there are any cross compatible models that have been discovered?
We have an apple ID locked A2179 Mac AIR it's CD3217B2 has different lithography and looks slightly gray but I'm assuming it's the same chip in principal, but I am also aware that for some inexplicable reason mac flashes these chips firmware depending on their location on the board....

Acer Nitro 5 LA-L181p power LED turns on by 5 secs (Short on PCH rail?)
                      by Victor Moreira Silva
                      Hello everyone,

I'm trying to repair my old Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54-55T5). I've already bought a new laptop, so this is more of a learning project. For the experience, with no high expectations of success.

Well, my decice specs are the following:

                      Model: Acer Nitro 5 AN517-54-55T5
                      CPU: Intel Core i5-11400H
                      GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
                      Motherboard: GH51G LA-L181P Rev:1c

                      The symptom:
When pressing the power button, the power LED lights up for about 5 seconds and then turns off. Initially, the issue was intermittent: sometimes...

                      A1707 - No internal display
                      by obelix24
I got two Macbook's Pro 15" A1707 both fully working except no image on internal LCD.

I've checked and it looks like it's problem with U9850 (on both pin 1 on screen connector is 0.007 or 0.050 in diode mode)

My question is if this IC can be ordered from Aliexpress (will it work) ?? or it needs to be taken directly from donor (a1707, a1990, a2141) ?

Is this IC interchangeable (on my board i have 6142E and i found that there can be also HD3SS212) are this chips same ? ? Is it possible to find this IC on some other Macbook 13" (air, pro) ?? i have...

Panasonic th-p50s10d - blinky red, SC board go boom
                      by dajoker
My old plasma died when one night recently. When I got to it it was giving a 3.3v sos (3 blinks).
I chased my way through the PSU, and a board, with no results.
Replacing a few bulged caps in the PSU, I eventually got to the SC board that had piles of shorts, a quick cheap replacement from china and the tv powers up again, except
I only have the right half of the picture.
                      Left half is completely blank.
now the c3 board running this side of the screen has its 3.3 and 5v onto the buffer ic and its got the 60v, so that all seems good.
                      all the other voltage rails...
