    LGA775 CPU's...

Do you think there still is any market room for computers with LGA775 processors? Such as a Pentium or Celeron dualcore. I haven't seen many with a C2D or C2Q for a while. So, what do you think?

Yes, I think there's still room for LGA775

No, I think LGA1155 is the new standard for budget-but-decent computers

775 is becoming a thing of the past.....like every socket before it. My first experience with a ZIF socket was the socket 3.......before that, it was cramming and praying you didn't rip the legs off the chips...

      Re: LGA775 CPU's...

LGA 1155 seems to have problems with the pins frying because of poor contact. (Shame on you Intel.)

IIRC, you will see posts about that at Overclockers.com.

Yah, I kinda thought that too, TC. But many businesses that do spreadsheets still like the old 775, because its cheap and straightforward. In fact, NeweggBusiness.com still has 775 workstations
EDIT: businesses that do bland stuff like spreadsheets and letters, etc.

Another fun fact: My main PC (which I'm posting this from) still uses a LGA775, but with a BTX standard mobo.

            Re: LGA775 CPU's...

LGA775 is going to be a thing of the past, just like Socket 478 when LGA775 first came out. LGA775 was still the socket of choice in budget builds up until around now with the Wolfdale Celerons and Pentiums, because the only budget CPU for the short-lived LGA1156 (one of the two sockets that was supposed to replace LGA775) was the Pentium G9650, which wasn't too popular.

Now that LGA1155 has some pretty potent Sandy Bridge Celerons and Pentiums that outperform the old budget Intel Wolfdale LGA775 processors, I believe that LGA1155 will soon take over from LGA775 on the budget side of things. Also, it will be interesting how the upcoming Ivy Bridge processors are, on LGA1155.

In the used market, PGA478 is still alive....I still see socket 7 and socket 370 boards to recap on a regular basis... It just depends on the need.

                    embedded?

for embedded, 386 DOS boxes are still used... I went to a elecronics plant as a college field trip and the pick and place machine on the oldest line (used for small runs) was dos based, likely 386 or 486 based. maybe even 286 or older... at that plant, anything from win 98 to win 7 was typical...

Still rockin with a pair of LGA775's here: E8500 and Celeron 430.

Interestingly enough here in my part of the world LGA775 are still featured as brand new budget builds and not used budget builds. It's mostly Celerons and Pentium Dual Cores though rarely the C2D E7xxx series.

LGA775 Mobos also still have high availability here. But it's mostly the g41 or g31 based. None of the P45 or P35 anymore.
                            CPU: Sempron 2500+ / P4 2.8E / P4 2.6C / A64 x2 4000+ / E6420 / E8500 / i5-3470 / i7-3770
                            GPU: TNT2 M64 / Radeon 9000 / MX 440-SE / 7300GT / Radeon 4670 / GTS 250 / Radeon 7950 / 660 Ti / GTS 450

                              by ugamazing
I have been working to develop a consistent and reliable method/workflow for removing, re-balling, and replacing CPUs on various MacBook Pro models (2015-2020).

I have done OK so far, but there's one detail I need to sort out. I'm hoping someone much more experienced than myself may be able to shed some light:

I am noticing the pulled CPUs (to be re-balled) come off fine, and they "look" fine as well, immediately when I pull them. However, within a few minutes, after cooling, the CPU chips develop a very, very slight curve/bend. It's SO SLIGHT, maybe a 1-2%...

                              Hi guys!
                              I have a Dell Optiplex 760 USFF (Ultra-Small Form-Factor).
It currently only supports Dual-Core CPUs and will halt with an error message, when a QuadCore is installed.

I have seen people running QuadCores in these machines, but the BIOS needs to be modded.
Since I have not found the modded BIOS to download anywhere, I am asking you guys for help:

Could you please add support for QuadCore CPUs (in my case the Core2Quad Q9550) to the BIOS?

I have attached the Dump of my machine.

                              by ducky29
Hello. I mostly do small electronics and tv repairs. I am confident with small bga chips but I never was successful with removing large chips especially cpus. Is it possible to remove them just using a preheater and hot air gun or I need something more advanced like a bga machine with temperature profiles, cooling fans, etc etc.

Any suggestion on aliexpress/ebay are welcomed. I am on a tight budget, max I can do is about 200$. Please anyone with more experience can give me some suggestions?

                              Thanks in advance.
