    Re: Dead board?

I used to use Gigabyte until every single god damn board I got was faulty in some way... dead audio, USB etc. Then I moved onto Asus where everything just worked. My P5K-E Wi-Fi is on all day and I've had that board for years now in my main rig... it's due for an upgrade but I don't see a point in doing so since I just type up word documents and use the net.
Recently I moved back to Gigabyte again with my brother's new quad core system and it seems good again.
For me, I'd recommend both brands, Asus and Gigabyte. But I do like the features that Asus motherboards come with!

Measure the voltage going to the CPU with a multimeter. Also check the 5vsb voltage on that 300W Forton (loaded with a motherboard and unloaded). Maybe it pulled a Bestec "overclock" on the motherboard if it has one of those 2-transistor 5vsb circuits.

Is your PSU putting out all three positive voltages? I'm just wondering if the lack of +5V could cause problems. Also what about the capacitors for the DIMM and video slot voltage regulators? Almost all of my mobo cap-related failures have been caused by those caps, not the ones for the CPU voltage regulator, including with my Pentium 4 Dell Optiplex GX-270s.

My 2 x GX270 originally failed like yours, caps by the RAM slots.
The replacement boards from Dell have not, since they contain Panasonic caps. One of the boards has had one of its '03 dated Rubycons by the CPU fail.
            Re-capped that.
The other looks OK for now.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Yoga3 Pro-1370 Board NM-A321 DEAD no power at all
                by k370
                Hi everyone,

I have a NM-A321 board that is dead, with no power at all.

When I received the laptop, the +5VPMIC line was shorted. Removing the PU3 (ISL95905) solved the short, so I ordered and replaced the ISL.

With the new ISL, the short is gone, but still no voltages at all. I measured the following rails:
                • +3VALW
                • +5VAUX
                • 1.2VSUS_PWRGD
                • 3VALW_PGD
                • 1.05VAUX_PWRGD

Additionally, the ISL95906 (PU3) is not getting any voltage on the VIN rail.

The only place on the board where I find any voltage is on the first MOSFETs, specifically:...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.

Nikon D5 – dead, power board issue ?
                by corrize
Hello, the DSLR has heavyly fallen. It is dead : no sign of life and display nothing.

When it worked, it always displayed a card present state on LCD display, even when the battery is empty it display a empty battery symbol.
I found a dead fuse, I replaced it and a mosfet burnt, I changed it and another fuse burned. Nothing burned after. And I can't find any short circuit anywhere, it's weird.

Now, I try to understand how it works.

There is two boards (the little one on pictures has no component) : the first is a « power board » : managing...
