    Peripheral Problems on Recapped Board

Just recapped a Soyo K7V Dragon Plus, replacing all the bulged and leaking Wendells with Ruby MBZ, Ruby ZL, and Sany WG and (less good) Sanyo NHG. All the bigger Wendells and Sacons were removed, though they had no signs of distress.

CPU is AMD 1600 Athlon XP. Video card is 32MB Nvidia. Video performance is terrible.
I tried to load Ubuntu as a dual boot with Mandriva. Kept getting stuck at the partitioning process. Tried playing a music CD, plays OK, but I note the CDROM motor gets hot. I tried three different drives, all known good.

Also this board popped one of the 100uf caps on my Soundblaster card.

North and South Bridge cips are cool. Whatever is causing this seems connected to the PCI circuits. Seems like it'c slow to detect PCI components.

PSU is a DELTA with 24 pin to 20 pin adapter. It is newish. Seems to blow warmer air than I would like.

Checked the BIOS - all voltages fine, but 5 volt is actual 4.67. CPU Temp is 43C.

Ther's still a few of the crappy Wendells on the board, they all look good though.

Any hints on where to start?? I rechecked my works and all the solder joints look good.
There are no burned or damaged traces that I can see. I was very careful about the case - there are no grounded stand-offs

Re: Peripheral Problems on Recapped Board

ii looked it up a while back, the working rating of power supplies are supposed to be within about 5% of that actual voltage on the plus side and within 10% on the minus side.. so if your +5 volt is 4.67, then it is a little low to be within standards, it should be at least 4.75 to about 5.25, but do not see that to be causing your problems.

Sensors are not always accurate, so if you can get a tester to check the actual output voltage on the lines, i would try that or a different power supply. IF the supply is good, then you still have a spare, but if it is bad and not reading right, then it just might fix your problems.. I have a board here that the sensor was reading over 15v on the 12v rail by internal sensors, but when checked with an actual tester, found it to be 12.1 which is almost right on, so i can say first hand that those sensors are not always accurate..

that doesn't mean they are good.
      check with esr meter.

smaller caps can go bad without showing it.

Re: Peripheral Problems on Recapped Board

        ATX tolerances for

        +12 is + or - 5% (11.4-12.6)
        +5v is + or - 5% (4.75-5.25)
        +3.3v is + or - 5% (3.135-3.465)
        -12v is + or - 10% (10.8-13.2)
        -5v (if used) is + or - 10% (4.5-5.5)

Sometimes motherboards sensors can be pretty good, sometimes they can be ridiculously off. Check with a multimeter. As long as that delta is an actual delta electronics, and not just those knock-off sunpro deltas it should be fine.

Re: Peripheral Problems on Recapped Board

          So I measured the cluster of 4 caps marked SPK5 - speaker - 3.85 ESR each value 10uf 25v.

          I found 2 22uf 25v measuring 1.09
          2 100uf 16V at .6 to .8
          470uf 10v at .06 to .13
          220uf 10v and 16v at .13 and .18

So I can see the sound being affexted by the SPK5 cluster, although it sounded OK.

Is the other stuff enough to cause the noload/hot problem?

Open up the PSU and check its caps.

Re: Peripheral Problems on Recapped Board

Memtest showed no problems. I can see how the SPK5 cluster could affect video. On playing the movie trailer again, the sound is interrupted as well as the video - could be that the 3.85 ESR is effecting the video as obviously there is both sound and video occurring simultaneously.

Tomorrow I am going to swap out the power supply for a new one and see if it makes any difference.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

                  Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Upgrading a Samsung ue55nu7096u with logic board from an ue55ru7105k -- good idea?
                  by ohren
I hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.

I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.

The models launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively....

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...
