Crucia MX500 SSD burnt component on board
I dismantled this MX500 SSD to see why it wasn't detected. There's a 6-legged component that appears to be burnt. If I can figure out what it is and I can get a cheap replacement part I can try repairing it. Please have a look at the photos and feel free to make a suggestion. A replacement SSD is about $60 here so it's worth a try.3 Photos

I use Clonezilla. You can download it from Source Forge and burn the image to a USB stick. Change your boot order in the BIOS to make the USB stick the first device. Restart and your computer will boot into the Clonezilla program which is a self-booting ISO. You can do a full disk copy. Good points are that it comes from a trusted repository and it doesn't load itself onto your computer. If using a laptop you will need to use an external USBdrive as the target drive. If i am cloning on a desktop I open the cover and connect the target drive to a Sata port with a sata cable.

Seasonic Focus Gold+ 750 watt "Hybrid Switch" not working
I bought this PSU used and it was working great. So quiet! Then I noticed the fan was not spinning at all. There is a push button on-off switch beside the Main rocker On-Off switch.
This push button switch is to allow the fan to operate full time or allow the fan to turn itself on and off as needed. The Full-time position is where the button is pushed in and stays in a depressed position to allow the fan to operate continuously. The default position where the button is "out" is for the fanless operation.
The button will not stay in the depressed down position.When...

Asus P5E-VM DO
I Tested this board on my workbench. I found that if I populated Ram slots 3 or four or installed a PCI-E video card the board would start up with fans racing and no video or boot.
By just populating the first two ramslots and using the onboard video the motherboard booted with the fans running at normal speed. I was able to browse the internet.
So I put the board in a case and now it self starts, fans running at max speed and no boot.
I'm thinking this is some kind of a short.
What do you think? Looking to isolate the bad component....

Bionic Pup 32-bit O/S
This is a Linux OS that runs in Ram that I found on an Explaining Computers You Tube video. It's available for download on Source Forge. Select "Linux" then search "uppup". This is a tiny yet powerful distro. Burn it to a USB stick. I downloaded it in MX Linux because their USB burner allows you to create a rewritable partition on the install USB stick.
Why would you do this? Main reason it's only 300MB in size. The included "Light" browser allows you to watch YouTube or post here with as little as 1GB of ram and a slow processor. The browser is based...

Re: space for another DDR slot... put one there?
I was about to post a similar question, but in my case, the DDR slot is there, but physically damaged.
I'm thinking the easiest way to remove the old one would be to crush it to bits using pliers.
Removing the pins individually would then be simple. You could clean out the holes individually. If you can buy a new DDR slot, installing it should be simple enough.
The working slot on my board abuts the broken one, so I would have to be a bit careful, I guess.
Removing the entire broken DDR...

Re: Compact Motherboard & CPU advise
How much of your HDD space is already used? Have you defragged recently? Have you done a virus scan? Try Malware Bytes to see, it's free. You could upgrade RAM to 8GB.

EPOX EP-MGF6100-M No USB Sound
This is a Socket AM2 Nvdia board with GeForce 6100 chipset.
The Onboard sound does not work if I use USB headphones but does work if I use the mini RCA jack. I did use the USB ports on the actual motherboard.
Made me wonder how USB talks to the audio chip in every other motherboard but not this one. I do find the audio a bit weak. I could replace the small caps near the audio port stack
but I don't expect it to fix the USB sound.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I could just add a PCI audio card but it's nice to have front-panel plug in sound.

Re: How can I desolder chock coil in PGA370 socket mainboard
Looks like you or someone has replaced the capacitors near the Toroids. The old caps were probably vented (bulging and leaking), causing the toroids to overheat. Replacing the toroids will not fix the no display problem. A toroid is simply copper wire wound around an iron core. They don't burn out. I've got two Abit boards with "burnt" toroids that worked fine after I replaced the bad caps.
Does the board have on-board video or does it use an add-on video card? We need a picture of the entire board...

Ultra 350w ATX Power Supply
I have 2 of these. This one had no Standby Power when measured. For a cheap PSU this has a great many components on the PCB. Many tiny resistors etc. in the secondary.
I found one domed cap in the secondary and the PS-ON green wire looks to be damaged by arcing where it enters the PCB.
The third picture shows the arcing on the green PS-ON wire, and the second last shows the doming on the capacitor between the two toroids.
Comments and Suggestions welcome....

Re: Asus A7V8X hdd issue
I assume they were NOT bulged or leaking?

Re: How to Recondition (Reform) Electrolytic Capacitors and Why
I have the following possible power sources available to me. Please comment.
Dell 19.5v Laptop Charger: CON: To connect to breadboard I will need to stuff the inner opening with copper wire and attach a ground wire to the outer surface. I don't want to remove the end piece (makes the thing unusable as a laptop charger). Also this is a 3-wire cable. End pice is 7.5mm, a non-standard size.
HP 32v/16v Printer power supply. PRO: Will work for 25 watt caps, Don't need to remove end piece,...

Thanks for this. I found them on Mouser.ca and also UCC KY series.

Cap availability problems
I'm hard at work recapping some faulty ATX PSUs.
I'm rapidly depleting my stocks of PSU appropriate capacitors. I would like to use UCC KY series but can't find 2200uf in 10mm can diameter. Mostly I am replacing bulged TEAPO SE(Green) and TEAPO SEK (Brown) 2200uf 10v 10mmx20mm.
I have a few Rubycon ZL and Rubycon YXG in this size but these need reforming.
I had to use 3 UCC KMG caps, they seem to work fine, but not exactly sure. Some of the Data Sheets do not give detailed ripple current and ESR data for comparison.
Any used caps that...

Re: Thermaltake ATX TR2-430 Turns on by itself, squeals, & has 0.9V on +5VSB
As suggested by Momaka, I recapped my Thermaltake TR2-430 today.
I found 3 bulged Teapo (Green) 6.3uf 2200uhf when I removed the cover.
I removed the grilles and screws securing the 2 fans, total 8 screws.
I removed the 2 screws holding the Voltage Selector switch from the chassis so the switch hung free.
I then unplugged the fan connector from the PCB.
I removed the 4 screws that secure the PCB to the chassis,
