    Dick Smith Oz-Caps

Some of the first caps I bought were an assorted pack from Dick Smith Electronics here in Oz.

Their representative staunchly defended the quality of the caps when I explained to him the Badcaps problem.

Among them were "Hitano" brand 470uF x 25V. Going by the scant markings, I can only guess that they were: EHR SERIES High Temperature Radial Type 105C.

Has anybody had any encounters with these or any comments to offer?

    Thanks,
    Neo.

typically cap assortments (at least the ones I've seen) contain Good Caps, however they're very rarely low-esr or of size/voltage ideal for motherboard repair...

Dick Smith GE6992 Flashing Backlight every 10 secs
      by Wilderone
Hi, wondering if I can get some assistance with this TV please.

Backlight starts flashing on/off roughly every 10seconds after the TV gets warm. (10-20 minutes)

I have stripped it down to the LED'S thinking I may see the culprit but all strings seem okay & test okay with LED Tester.

Each LED string (4) measures 130v & drops around 2v when it flashes & back up to 130v.

      Mainboard number; ms33930-zc01-01
      Panel number; V650HP1-PS6

      I have a basic Multimeter &...

DSE GE6878 possible TV receiver dying remote not working well
      by CdDvdFlash
For this Dick Smith TV GE6878 (Thompson) I replaced the broken remote with a universal it kinda works though if its more than a few meters away sometimes the buttons register and sometimes they wont so I bought another remote from another brand and it has the same problem, I've had an old TV in the past that the sensor died completely and I replaced it to fix it could this be a similar problem? I tried looking for a service manual, spare parts for a receiver and a parts list but I couldnt find any info. can someone please help me to find the info online for a service manual or where I can buy...

Sony KD-49XE8396 49" Bravia LCD TV

      Hi There,
When this set developed this fault a member of the family passed it on to me,while they bought a newer set.
On power up via the separate 19v SMPSU, a dark screen, backlights and sound OK.
On removing the rear cover later, I checked the TCON board and ordered a replacement just in case. The replacement board made no difference.Prior to replacing the TCON board,I cleaned all 3 ribbon cables with iso prop alcohol.
Disconnecting one of the two LCD ribbons going to the LCD/Gate driver boards, managed to get half a working RHS screen with half the SONY logo "NY"...

Dick Smith GE6824 no backlights plus more
      by dkneyle
One of these cheap Chinese TVs made for the re-badging market. 32 inch. Pulled from the dumpster at the garbage tip. Surprisingly clean, only just dumped I'd say.
The indicator LED changes from Red to Green. No sign of any image even with the flashlight test. All voltages other than backlight come up good. The BL-ON signal is good and remains constant. At power on the backlight give a quick flash, but a check of backlight voltages show a peak at the expected voltage then a quick cascade back towards 0 volts.
So the mainboard appears to be sending out the correct signals to start...
