    Dead MoBo after Recapping

I am a newbie here and have enjoyed reading many of the posts in search of a resolution to my problem. I have yet to find one. I have recapped several boards in the past and brought all but one back to a productive life. The one that is giving me a problem is an Asrock P4V88. I was getting BSODs like crazy. I had tested everything on the board that I could and decided to replace the bulging caps on the board and all others that even appeared to be OK. Now as I try to test the board, it won't power up. I have confirmed that the PSU is in good shape. It is supplying the +5 volt stand by voltage. Nothing happens. The PSU does not turn on. There are no voltages at the PSU. I am able to test the PSU and it tests good. I can't seem to find the problem. I had recapped 2 other boards at the same time that are working well. Does anybody have any ideas? I would appreciate any suggestions or help.

    Thanks from a gratefull newbie,
    Paul

post a pic of the recapped board.
    asrock=cheap asus.
    asus marks their caps backwards.
common newbie mistake to asume the mark=neg.

One other note... I went by the markings on the old caps..not the board marking.

then its likely a bad solder job or a trace/thruhole damage issue.

The attachments are the pictures of the mobo. I had considered a possibility of thru hole damage, but did not notice any problems when I removed the old caps. Would removing and replacing the existing caps be worthwhile? The only nones that gave me any problems in the removal were the ones arround the CPU socket

Since I haven't seen this posted as a possibility yet, I think at this point it might be a good idea to check also and see if maybe you might have a solder bridge somewhere. I tried to inspect your photos closely but wasn't able to tell.

              Good Luck!

                Re: Dead MoBo after Recapping

Suggest putting another mobo into the case with same setup if you can , confirm that it is the mobo (recapped) that isn't working before doing anything. A jolt may have messed up your PSU to CPU power supply. Or change the PSU to new or known good one.

what i went through dealing with my mobo with dead onboard sound!
                  by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
                  by double_DD
                  Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Dell Inspiron 14-5448 - fan turns off and mobo keeps running
                  by Felipe_Serra_83
Hi, everyone. First post of an actual repair. I'm a technician but a complete newbie with laptops.

So I got this Dell Inspiron to play with.

No charger, so I connected to my bench PSU.

The laptop also didn't include: hard disk (I added one of my own for testing, see below) and wireless PCB (but I doubt this could have anything to do with this particular failure).

------What it did (and didn't do)------

                  1) I turned it on and it powered on. Powered down in 2 seconds by itself.

                  2) Removed RAM, changed slot. Same...

                  i need help to repair a edm-033 ps2
history : as always hdmi port and usb ports destroyed after unplugged
after change them, ps5 dead too : 1 beep, no blue light. after inspection 1.8v power was shorted, and because of dead panasonic chip. after remove it : no short anymore
                  so i changed it
now i have got 5v stby,, 3.3v stby, 3.3v power, 1.8v power and no short on them
but the ps5 is dead again : 1 beep, near 10 seconds with power lines and then off, no blue light ...

i don't see any projection of liquid metal on pcb.

                  Finding a dead short component
                  by Beton
                  Hi guys!
I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage...
