    Re: Recapped mobo effecting RAM?

    Second post:

More comment on VIA; once I get stuff ready to go in, then I'll turf my last VIA-based computer with intel at work also XP. This pc is last one to go. Then I'll have pile of VIA working boards to sell off.

    Cheers, Wizard

      Re: Recapped mobo effecting RAM?

I used to have a QDI Advance 3 motherboard (old Super Socket 7 board with VIA chipset) that came in with 3 bad caps. Replaced all of the 1000uf 6.3V caps on the board with Nichicon HE series caps of the same capacitance and voltage, and with 128MB of RAM installed on the board it would freeze up to the point that the cursor is stuck and the keyboard doesn't respond. Trying Windows 98 and Windows ME made no difference. I put the same RAM into another computer of the same era that used PC100/PC133 memory, and it didn't freeze there.

Putting in 1 stick of 64MB PC100 RAM solved the freeze up problems, but putting back the 128MB PC100 RAM the freeze-up problems came back. It was a bizarre case for me, so later I gave up and scrapped that motherboard for parts.

        by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

dell e6540 boots to black screen (no dell logo)
        by jake-b
        good morning all,

i purchased a used dell e6540 laptop used 10 months ago from a vendor on ebay. intel i-7 processor, 16 gb ddr3 memory, 256 gb ssd., mobo la-9413p (rev 1.0 dated 2014-08-04). i've inflicted no damage on it since purchase but its past is unknown. starting 2 weeks ago it began to fail to boot (initially 9 of 10 boot attempts failed, now 10 of 10 fail). there was no new hardware or software added (i was using as a kodi video server). the post process doesn't complete and booting no longer displays the dell logo screen - screen remains black with no backlight. some other...

Xbox One Controller - Phantom stick activity (sticks completely uninstalled)
        by Aimbit
        Hi All,

I bought some used Xbox one controllers "as is/untested" and they both have the same issue. The joysticks go wild for no reason while plugged in.

        https://youtube.com/shorts/YTYtjUPkBX0?feature=share

I removed both joysticks assuming it was an issue with the sticks, but the video posted here is the activity of the sticks with no sticks installed! My only guess is one of the tiny IC's that reads the inputs is broken. There are two small ones near either joystick, and then one larger one. I found a replacement on Aliexpress for the larger one...

Mobo MSI B550-A PRO password popup
        by Cerberuska
        Hello guys,
I have interesting problem. My MoBo MSI running on Ryzen 7 w/o graphics just good. I swapped to Ryzen 5 5600G and on the boot I stuck with screen on picture. Enter Password. I checked BIOS setting with Ryzen 7, no security is enabled, BIOS password or TPM.
BIOS I updated to last one.
        any suggestions?
And same thing for two different 5600G, and yes, MoBo supposed to support it.
        Thank you...

Dell G3 17 3779 - no display after mobo replacement
        by mrsith
        Hi guys,

I have a friend's Dell 3779 that came to me with severely shorted mobo. Did not manage to isolate the cause, most likely that was a bga shorted. Went for a replacement motherboard. Got one from China, apparently it's been tested prior to shipping. The mobo starts up normally but I am getting no display whatsoever.

Tried using external monitor, but being blind I am not sure if laptops goes as far as booting to Windows, a d without it I cannot get hdmi to work. Can't see boot menu options to make sure it boots to Windows. Went ahead and did a blind bios update,...
