Xbox One Controller - Phantom stick activity (sticks completely uninstalled)

    Hi All,

I bought some used Xbox one controllers "as is/untested" and they both have the same issue. The joysticks go wild for no reason while plugged in.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/YTYtjUPkBX0?feature=share

I removed both joysticks assuming it was an issue with the sticks, but the video posted here is the activity of the sticks with no sticks installed! My only guess is one of the tiny IC's that reads the inputs is broken. There are two small ones near either joystick, and then one larger one. I found a replacement on Aliexpress for the larger one (I'm hoping), but I can't find either of the two smaller ones.

Any idea whats going on here?

    thanks

edit: I removed one of the two small ICs that the joysticks connect to, seems to have made no difference, I’m still getting phantom stick activity from both sides. I may try removing the larger IC and see if that does anything but it’ll prob just break the controller at that point.

first you cant just remove the sticks - that would leave the inputs floating and picking up static,
you would need to tie the center pin to an outer pin with a resistor atleast.
did you clean the board with alcahol?

Thanks. I had considered that was a possibility but I will do that.

yes I went over the board with a microscope and gave it a general cleaning.

i have two controllers with identical issues so im assuming there’s the same bad component somewhere.

In case anyone looks for this post -- there was a broken path from the left stick to the controller IC. I had to bridge a connection to make it work.

Firstly I am not a tech. You guys may see mistakes or oversights in my methods so don't be bashful and feel free to post corrections/opinions.

          =>Background:
I bought my son a used Xbox One original model: A12-220N1A Rev: 02 with original PSU & 2 controllers 7 years ago. I “modded” the unit placing a 4.5” 12V exhaust fan with a 9v wall wart adapter on top of the vent/fan of the unit. And plugged the Xbox PSU into a Tripplite LTR-600 voltage regulator. Also connected to the Tripplite are a 275w computer tower, an Xbox 360 PSU and a Westinghouse 52” LED TV. ...

          Xbox One S - 12V Rail Short - Q9F1 Keeps Blowing
          by grimacelord
          Hello,

Have an Xbox One S here that has a short on the 12V power rail. There is no power, beep, or partial fan spin when connecting power cable.

After diagnosing with thermal camera, Q9F1 MOSFET (NTTFS4C50N) is getting hot. When I remove this MOSFET, the short on the 12V rail disappears.

I first replaced Q9F1 with one from a donor board and then partially reassembled the Xbox to test. When I plugged the power cord in, I got a partial fan spin and I thought I had fixed it, but unfortunately, the Xbox still did not power on. So I then disassembled the Xbox...
