    Weird Yellow Caps

I have to replace some caps on an old HP AMD computer (old socket 462). Two of them are GSC (big suprise there ) 10V 1000uF's. The others I can not find a logo on them anywhere. They seem to have a very very very subtle bulge (could be manufacturing defect even it is so subtle) but I don't trust them because they are in the main VRM, which is in a riser PCB off the board LOL. They are bright yellow with black markings on them (arrows with o's in them). 4 of them are 6.3v 680uF and 2 are 4v 820uF. Which seems odd to me, because they are all the same size. I tried to take a picture but they all came out blurry. Any recommendations on caps would be great. The computer serves as a terminal in my fathers dental office for the dental assistants to look up digital x-rays, schedules etc. so it needs to be as stable as can be, but it will not be taxed extra hard.

yep those are it. Odd I searched for yellow black capacitors and that thread never came up. Hmm. Now it is time to figure out what I want to replace them with.

Suggest better to recap with reliable 1500uF 6.3v Ultra Low ESR E-Caps, instead of these old yellow Fujitsu polymers.

I think you should misunderstanding my meaning, I am not suggest "SAMXON", i just suggest to use with ultra low ESR caps. Rubycpn MCZ and UCC KZJ are also recommand, i am never hard sell "SAMXON". But, if anyone want to try, welcome. More choices must better for consumers.

I would go with Samxons, but that is just me and my very good experience with them.

Ruby MCZ could be interesting to try, but hard to source - at least for me impossible...

Oh the other hand, Samxons GC offer par-to-par specs with impossible to source MCZ Rubys and the GA Samxons are even far better that this, so the only one question remain - if the GA aren't too good for the old 8RDA+ design - it may or may not cause ringing and oscilations witch increase the overheating and decrease the overclockability by increasing ripple...

GC would be a smart choice there, GD for the small ones and RS Samxons for the little caps witch could bring big problems when not changed too

Found this forum searching for cap info.

I have a xbox360 and the yellow/black 4v 820uf behind the left controller port seems to have a "ball bearing loose" sound. Is this possible? Only asking cause the 360 finally took a crap on me and I'm trying to fix it. Thought maybe it was just overheating but now I don't know.

                  Thanks

Can you provide some pics? and what exactly do you mean with "ball bearing loose"? does it generate noise? I would be somhow suprised if MS haven`t forced his OEM`s to use some minimum quality. What exatly is going wrong with the box? The more details you give, the better the advice you may get. In generall it is possible that some parts are starting to emit a hizz if things are getting worse. But usually the coils are more prone for that kind of anoyance, but singing caps are common too.

isnt there a coil next to the cap. that will be making a hissing noise.

That's the position sensor that tells the xbox if its sitting down flat or up on edge, so it can adjust the 4 quadrants of the "Ring of Light" to reflect current controller ID related to the screen in multiplayer games.

                        It's fine.....

True, but I do remember that prior to explosing of my caps I heard this noise too. Usualy hi-pitched one, but it depends on circuit.
To tell long story short - the excessive riple of dying cap could and does make the coil resonate

2ntense - please provide detailed picture and read type of the cap/what is writen on it? Witch company made it? It is bulging? Smelling?

I'll post pics soon. "ball bearing loose" means, remember that game you hold with all the little steel balls and you try to get the balls to sit in each hole, thats what it sounds like. NO hissing or singing caps sound from my discription. The Xbox after almost a year of perfect working order began to freeze up last night. It was during a game and then would boot back up only to freeze again after a few seconds. So i let it sit for an hour or so then fired it back up. Demoed Tony hawk for about 5 minutes then it froze again. Seems to be a heat issue now but can't be totally sure.

                            thanks

Are those solid polymer caps? if you can obtain some snyo oscon, i think this should be the best solution, but any ultra low ESR cap like Rubycon MCZ or similar wit increase cpacitance should be ok.

I recently acquired a set of Bose Roomate speakers from the mid to late 80's. Basically the right speaker cabinet is completely passive, and the left one has the power transformer and amplifier circuit in it. Out of curiosity, I opened it up to see what the circuit looked like. Looks like they used all Nichicon VX (2x 4700uF/16v for smoothing off the bridge rectifier), a couple random Nichicon SE series sprinkled on the board, and what really caught my eye - 2 yellow sleeved Nichicon caps (both 1uF/50v with no real series marking. Below are pictures of the caps. The only thing not shown in these...

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!

I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000

                                          Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

Help with switching power supply caps

I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...

                                          Gigabyte GA-6OXT :: caps question
                                          by Foetuss
                                          Good evening

I recently aquired a rev 1.1 Gigabyte 60XT, and was suprised of the amount of leaking caps for a motherboard of the P3 era. Especially the way the 330µf caps seems like the housing discolored even.
Now, there are some 3300µF 6.3V KZG series around the CPU. Would it be OK to replace them with something like EEUFR1A332 ? (Panasonic FR 3300µF 10V). Or was this board designed around very low ESR caps?

But I was also suprised about the bigger boys, which are 330µF 25V.
Could it be they used 25V caps because they were cheaper / available at that time?...
