Re: ILO LCT27HA36 TV, no picture but sound
What brand of cap did you use as a replacement?
There are different types of caps. Some caps are general purpose and others are low ESR (ohms). If you used a general purpose cap, it may work for a while and then eventually fail.
Bad caps can fail without visible physical symptoms (i.e. bloated or domed). They can be out of uF tolerance or have high ESR (ohms).Leave a comment:

Re: ILO LCT27HA36 TV, no picture but sound
i googled and found a site that said something about a bad cap, so i went in and replaced the cap and the tv worked great for a few months and about a week ago it started again.
so i took it apart and checked all the caps and they all looked fine so i put it back together and now it wont come on at all, i plan to take it apart again soon but was wondering if anyone had any ideas i could try

kc8adu don't like Decon caps. Reports them being a pandemic (or close to pandemic) in Akai TVs.
(At least similar to the Fuhjyyu caps in CWT-made Antec PSUs)Leave a comment:

Re: ILO LCT27HA36 TV, no picture but sound
Actually I bought mine because the ad said it was dead and I wanted to learn a little about LCD TVs and I knew Akai had PSU issues.
When I got it it worked fine.
I think whoever tested it didn't know there was an on-off switch back where the power cord plugs in.
I knew the caps were crap so I did a preemptive recap anyway.

Re: ILO LCT27HA36 TV, no picture but sound
You need to replace all the caps in that PSU.
Those Megmeet PSU's get HOT and are known cap blowers.
I recapped an Akai LCT2785TA a year or so ago.
Same PSU.
Your other boards look darned close too.
I think it may be the same TV with different plastics.
I replaced 100% of the PSU caps and everything down to and including 6mm on the other boards.
Was a LOT of caps..
.
So, was the Akai having a similar problem, sound but no picture?
I ordered all the caps for the PSU from Digi-Key. I'll keep you all posted!Leave a comment:

Buy a Vizio at Walmart or Sears [or where ever] and it breaks under Warranty then you take it back to Walmart or Sears and get another one.Leave a comment:

Re: ILO LCT27HA36 TV, no picture but sound
Granted, it may be the best of a bad lot, but it's still part of the problem. As an example; when my Mitsubishi DLP had a bad thermistor, it took two phone calls, within two hours a guy was out to replace the part. This was about a year after the factory warranty expired; it was a known problem and Mitsubishi had extended the warranty
Here's Vizio's Warranty service plan
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but in my opinion any warranty that requires shipping a flat panel TV to a factory service center is questionable if you are dealing with a 19" -30" TV. It is ludicrous if you are dealing with a 50" plasma. What is even more offensive is the service availability out of warranty. None, nil, nada. They want you to buy a new TV. Granted, there have been a few exceptions; buying one of their TVs from Costco and getting Costco's 'Concierge' coverage (3 year warranty) is better. Anyone who waltzes into Walmart to buy one could be in for a rude shock in a year or two.
Of course, many shops can open the TV up, determine who actually built it, and have a good chance of repairing it. But guess who pays for the extra trouble?
PlainBill
According to their warranty information delivered with the product they offer in home service for TVs 30 inches and above for problems that can be repaired on site.
Obviously if it can't be repaired on site it's going to a service center. Doesn't matter who made it.

Re: ILO LCT27HA36 TV, no picture but sound
Generic makers usually are like that, they either want them back regardless and ship you back a rebuilt one from collection of parts or they will tell customers to take back to where they bought it and get exchanged.
This is reason why I see very few generic TVs at our shop due to this. The ones I get is out of warranty and impossible to get parts. Some I managed to repair was deep detective work to find one that is same panel as this that I can get parts for. Execept for mainboard which is unobtainium especially many generic TVs.

You have Vizio in the wrong group.
It's a US owned company with service centers actually in the US.

KC8 said a while back that he's done a few.
Worst he's found was bad solder joints.
Nothing blown.
.
Here's Vizio's Warranty service planDefective Products must be sent to a VIZIO service center to obtain warranty service. VIZIO is not responsible for transportation costs to the service center, but VIZIO will cover return shipping to the customer. Pre-authorization is required before sending any unit in for warranty service.

Re: ILO LCT27HA36 TV, no picture but sound
That's why I avoid TVs with names like Haier, Ilo, Insight, Memorex, Viore, Element, Emerson, etc. They are slapped together in China of the cheapest components available. They are sold by the container load with a very limited warranty, and no service information available. The distributor sells them and promises to replace any that fail within a certain period - typically 90 days. They MIGHT have a deal with a parts swap operation where any TVs that fail are disassembled, defective boards identified, and replaced with still working boards from TVs that had other failures "Factory refurbished".
I just did a quick check on prices from a major national retailer. Here is what it costs for a 32" 60Hz LCD TV. The first three will have some sort of service organization and service literature; I would expect a 1 year warranty. The last four I'd expect a 90 day warranty, and at best you have to ship it back to the "factory" for replacement.
Sony $449; Samsung $398; LG Electronics $374; Viore $349; Vizio $349; Viore $319; Emerson $309

Re: ILO LCT27HA36 TV, no picture but sound
No, the picture just suddenly went out, like the TV was shut off, but the green light was still on and the soiund was perfect.
Okay, I found bad caps in the power supply (is that what you mean by inverter <<<NOOB!). The part number on the power supply is MLT168A.
I've attached some pictures of the power supply. The last two have the bad caps. Should I stop here or keep on digging? Thanks all!

When you go to test the fuses,I would suggest using the diode setting on the meter. It should make a continuous beep if the fuse is good.On the ohm setting, the reading you get might be because of nearby components, which might make you think the fuse is still good, but it isn't.I hope this helps.Thank You very much!

by MgiffuneI have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.
I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and... -
by IerwinHello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged... -
by jchangHi all
I was just given a Samsung TV with the issue. I read various threads and videos and attempted the ribbon tape method to gain an image, but no luck.
Symptom:
No picture no sound.
When I plug in the power cord, Backlight LED turns on for a half second and then turns off. The red LED next to the power button located center bottom flashes 2 or 3 times. When the power button is pressed after, it does the same thing.
No sound at all.
What I tried:
1. I tried unplugging the left or right ribbon... -
