What to do with bad LED strips?

I suspect a lot of you have done a lot of repairs and end up with a lot of bad LED strips...what do you do with them?

Wonder if I should get a pile of LED chips and try to replace the bad units for the heck of it, but I don't really need the strips at the moment because I bought the strips...

Oh... and I think I got my TV working again, though not 100% I don't think, on a white screen I can see a bit of the ghost of the LED strips, must have done something wrong or the LED strips aren't quite the same as the original...

Do people re-LED the strips? Or generally buy strips?

I wonder what LEDs I should collect for future backlight repairs... probably should get 1W 3V 3030 or 3535s at least so I can swap the LEDs out again when they burn out, but what are the prevalence of 2835's or 2W/6V or 3W units, or something else for other TVs... ?

I keep them in case i need to pick a lens off it. There may be a day that i will repair them and thegn have them ready when i need them but i never got round to doing it because i am lazy.

Every technician has his preference. I, personally would like to replace them with new ones all the time except that the time to receive these imported LED's is in the months and my clients don't want to wait so I end up repairing them. Repaired LED's where you unsolder the 3030 LED from the board and fit a new one comes with risk and time. The risk is that you don't do it right and your tv is a comeback and the time is on average it takes me 9 hours of labor to fix 90 LED's. Is it worth it in order to save $40? Absolutely not. If I repair the LED's I make sure that I can reduce the current so that the repaired LED's do not drive at 300mA but rather at around 200mA. Then I can guarantee that the set will run without problems for a long time. Remember that the 3030 LED's you but from Ebay or Aliexpress all come from China and these suppliers are unscrupulous and will sell you reject stock or underrated parts so you will have a comeback.

Yes, the most common LED's are the 3030 3V and 6V 1W type. The 3535 are not so common and all the other types are really uncommon in my country.

Re: What to do with bad LED strips?

I also wonder if the strips ever come bad or have premature failure too, which also could cause a callback - so either way there's a risk.

hmm.... my TV apparently uses 3535 (samsung) according to measurements and matching photos of the units. Hence wondering if I should get some 3535s but perhaps I can squeeze 3030s on the pads...

I'm sure the sheets are in the right order because I made sure I didn't take them out when not necessary. However trying to squeeze the back panel back into place was tricky. The display doesn't look that bad, can't even notice any splotches or anything when there's a regular picture on the screen, but on a fully white screen I do see some very faint splotches, maybe I'm expecting too much, I don't know what a new TV looks like on the same screen because it's rare that a fully white screen is displayed on the sales floor...

Fortunately this is my personal TV so I can negotiate with the owner all I want I thought I paid too much for the strips, mainly because I had no space for leaving the TV opened up to do triage, next time I really want to have generic parts ready to repair these hence ideally having the LEDs ready to go instead of dealing with ordering strips. I don't foresee myself having a lot of the same TVs to repair so unfortunately preordering strip inventory is not a very sound idea for me...

yes they arrive bad sometimes, ALWAYS check them before installing.

I did a quick go/no go test, but didn't test at full current, which was unfortunate. But even so, it may still fail after the initial test...

Either way if you solder in new LEDs, they are exactly the same, could be good or bad...

BTW do they (chinese LED manufacturers) put failed components in tape? I can imagine them dumping failed units into a bag and selling them, but if they put it in a tape, there should be higher chance they actually passed testing?

                        Ok.. this is the story:
Have an old Samsung LED 3D TV (UE55F6475). First it started to lose light on the lower 40% of the screen now and then. Like for 10-60 mins and then it would work again. Then a bit later it just got stuck in that position. The lower 40% of the screen is dark, and it gets progressively darker the lower u go so it's obviously that LED strips where not working. I also looked for similar errors online and saw an exact copy and on that one it was faulty LED strips.

This is kinda how it looked, just that mine were at the bottom of the screen:

                        Hi There!
I bought a broken 32" TV today. It has sound but no image. I checked with a flashlight and it was missing backlight
Disassembled down to the led strips and found this TV has been serviced before. Not sure if it was fixed, worked again for some time, and broke again, or maybe last repair wasn't successful

Looks like on previous repair, the center LED strip was replaced with a different model, 7 leds in it instead of 8, but when checking LEDS one by one, leds on the center strip were brighter with same test voltage (multimeter in DIODE mode) so maybe the...

                        by h4rdw4re
                        Hi guys,
I have one very old TV.
Main problem I have with this tv is that led strips won't light.
I measured voltage levels, and inverter input is 24V.
                        other voltages are also ok.
What I found is that removing and connecting again connector CN1 led strips lights for shorts time (but only once). When led strips lights up then light is uniformly spread on whole panel.
First I thought that led strips are dead, but I'm quite sure that problem is not strips related.
I don't know what voltage level is at output of inverter board (samsung SSL400_3E2A) and how...

So... I have the patchy back light issue with my Visio M70, meaning some light up, others do not. I finally got around to testing the LED driver board and found that was not the issue (swapped another one in and the same issue persisted) and I am considering if i dare dive deeper into this TV and go after the LED strips.

Right away i see that they don't seem to stock them anywhere out there (E700DLB0016-002) is a part number that i see a you tube / seller guy list out. He has a nice video of how to get into my exact TV out there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AcUPiN83Tg

About replacing individual LEDS on BL strips
                        by edugimeno
                        Hi There!
Having fixed 5-6 TV sets by replacing full LED strips, and having watched other people fix that by replacing just one LED in the strip, my question now is what should I consider before doing so.

At this time I have some old strips removed from TV's with all but one LED working. Are there different voltage/current LED on different strips? Are 99% of them just the same and interchangeable?

How do you find which specific model is needed for each strip? When I check if a LED is OK by attaching the multimeter leads to the individual led pads on the strips I...
