Philips 19PFL5422D, screen distortion pixelation, fixed with a hack.

Hi, I just got a Philips 19pfl5422d, made in december 2007, has a refurbishment sticker on the back. the original owner tells me that the screen has artifacts that looks like red pixelation after it turns on for a while. I bought it off him and try my skills/luck.

I took it to my PC output, it shows my desktop no problems. But after a while (5 minutes) it starts to have artifacts, it looks like pixelation. It is "wavy", and the color mostly approximate nearby pixels. I had a dark blueish background, and those pixelation never had any red in it, unlike attached pic (forgot to take a pic on desktop when problem occurs).

I guess the entire power, inverter and CCFLs are fine, and limited my troubleshooting to the graphic logic board and the screen. The LCD should be fine, as it shows a good pic in the beginning. My guess is then the graphic chip heats up and starts to send bad signals to the LCD.

I took out the board. No visible damage on the caps. Some capxons and some I can't read off immediately. The caps I ordered are still not here yet so I guess I won't be replacing any today. I read on the forum that some of these graphic chips can be badly soldered under the BGA package. But I can't do reflow lest breaking the chip. However, I do have a computer chipset heatsink and fan sitting around. Let's give it a shot and test the heat theory.

without proper mounting hardware I resorted to a rubber band and 2 pieces of toothpick. check out the pics I also used some generic white thermal paste between the heatsink. I was thinking of a way to power the fans inside the TV but I am not ready to shock myself to death yet. So I just skip that and test just the heatsink for now. Since I am lazy at the same time I left the fan unconnected in there hehe.

The combined height of the heatsink and fan was pushing on the metal shield when I put it back on very slightly. I was thinking, heck might as well give the chip a little push in case the BGA solder balls are loose

I started testing the thing without a back panel on, no sound.... turns out that the small daughter board must be connected. Or else the board would detect that you have headphone connected and output nothing to the speakers (kinda irrelevent but I want to point out).

I tried every possible input on the TV, HDMI, component, composite, VGA, and now attena. All are working. Also enjoyed beating up my brother repeatedly in street fighter 4

Now I just put it back on and running HDTV show, it's on Letterman right now.... I am going to run it for as long as I can and see if I can get back the pixelation. If not, then I consider it fixed since it's for my personal use.

should I go back and replace the caps? What other things would you experts suggest?

A heatsink, while not common, is in the original design of the NEC 1700V that I'm using right now to write this. See my board pic at

The one in the middle sits on top of a BGA chip and the top actually screws onto the shield.

If it works, most here will still recommend that you replace the caps to be proactive. If the Capxon caps test good with an ESR, you can reuse them somewhere else.

PS. Great creativity in figuring this out.

Also i'd put on a larger heatsink so to get rid of the whining fan.

the TV is 2 days strong, I replaced my old CRT SDTV 20" with this guy. The screen is kinda small to fill up the space the old CRT displaced, I guess I have to get used to it.

no problems at all... there are some hiccups when it comes to the OSD menu. Sometimes it comes out slower, sometimes not at all, depending on which channel I was on. I switched channel and I can go back in OSD menu again. seems like a software issue to me.

        cheers!!

Philips 8200 series 65PUS8204/12 stuck at Philips Logo

Philips 8200 series 65PUS8204/12 stuck at Philips Logo, it does not reboot it just stays on the logo.

It does power up when pressing the power button.

I already try the power button while plugin the plug with no result.
Also put the latest firmware autorun-TPM191E_R.001.004.100.000.upg on a MBR/FAT32 USB stick at USB port2 with no result either.

Could this be an PSU or eMMC issue ?

Philips curling iron - is this a common AC cable?
          by double_DD
          Hi all,

Wife has 2 Philips hair curling irons half defective - after learning how they're supposed to work and testing them, it turned out that both have defective power cables, and both on the same place; broken wires due to wire bending.
As they were both relatively easy to disassemble, and cables are plugged not soldered (as they can rotate in the handle), I was sure it would be easy to find replacements. But - NO! I'm unable to find anything similar on ebay or Aliexpress.

Not sure if this is something Philips proprietary, or a standard, but the cable plug...

          Philips 47PFS7509/12 LCD TV problem
          by janos6662000
          Hi

I have here a Philips 47PFS7509/12 LCD TV which came to me with a weird problem : without signal i could access menu, make a factory reset, access menus, etc.
When i applied cable signal to check image, i had normal picture, but TV was restarting.
I downloaded original firmware and applied the update, but the problem remained.
From a colleague i received a "factory package software" which is a lot bigger.
I made another firmware update, but still did not solve the problem.
Somewhere on the way the error got worse, because at the moment the...

Samsung UN55NU7300F Curved TV. Half side backlight out. Fixed by just removing the rear snap cover
          by howardc64
TV was fixed just after removing Samsung's rear snap cover.

This curved TV's construction is rather interesting. When the snapped on back is removed, rest of the TV will relax the curvature. Top of LCD panel is loose as it wants to straighten out against the slightly curved bezel. Snapped back provide most of the curvature shape. So just simple disassembly of rear cover will allow the rest of the TV frame to relax its curvature. Thats probably what fixed it but no idea which connection. 4x LEDs are edge lit.

Maybe PSU->backlight connector didn't have a good contact?...

Philips 43PUS7506/12 - Loud blown out sound
          by aidanmo
          Hello,

I've got a really strange issue with the speakers on my Philips 43PUS7506/12. It makes this awful loud buzzing now. It happened after it was attempted to be wall mounted - I think the back got squeezed and something broke.
I thought maybe the speakers got damaged, so I replaced them - no dice.
          • Using the internal speakers, it always happens.
          • Using the headphone jack, it never happens.
          • Using the digital/optical out with a soundbar - it happens after about 2h/movie runtime - it's never as drastic, it just pops in and out, but I didn't want it to damage the sound bar
