Re: finding a replacement BIOS flash chip as backup for repair.
Thanks, I have seen that datasheet. I need a vendor for this part, both digikey and mouser don't carry it.

finding a replacement BIOS flash chip as backup for repair.
I am looking at a SONY VAIO laptop motherboard that may have a corrupted BIOS and after some research (squinting hard on the motherboard components) I found a flash chip. It is Eon EN25F80-75HCP.
some spec include 100Mhz max clock speed, 2.7-3.6V input voltage, and 4K page of 256 bytes, etc.
I can't find a suitable replacement on digikey or mouser with exact specs. If anyone can help locate a vendor with good parts that would be great.
If I must choose a different value for some of the specs what can I change and expect that it still work? I imagine that...

Re: need help on a laptop LCD panel, "2 minutes to black"
thanks for the help, turns out that these so called "new" inverters are not made to spec and turns off after 2 minutes. I ordered one USED and it works perfectly fine for at least 2 hours...
Since I have been ordering inverters from the same vendor. This vendor's bad inverter record is currently 100%.
and also the chance of a used inverter to work is at 100% as well.
What should I get in the same situation I wonder :P

need help on a laptop LCD panel, "2 minutes to black"
I am trying to repair a acer laptop with a dark panel. The panel first came as completely dark. I first suspect the inverter. Ordered one online and replaced it.
It lights up for about 5 minutes thru the windows boot screen. Then shuts off again. The inverter replacement improves the problem but doesn't fix it.
I tried to turn down the brightness a bit, the light starts to flicker then shuts off as well.
Should I try a different inverter? or should I try to replace the bulb, which is something I have little confidence in doing (and probably give...

Re: can someone help identify the parts to replace?
I would much rather not do the comparison as the casing is fused and require dremel-style destruction to take it out XD.
if I can just replace the 2 pieces and call it a day, I would do that. Otherwise I rather buy another one LOL.
Thanks everyone for trying tho.

Re: can someone help identify the parts to replace?
I have an identical inverter that doesn't run as hot.
Yes, this is for case mod lights. It is probably very generic design.
the bottom pin and the top pin on the right side on the transformer is short. Is that normal or that's the cause of defect?
I would order something from digikey, which one would work?Last edited by meanderer; 11-28-2010, 07:07 PM.

Re: Acer AL1715 briefly works then goes black
1 way to discharge high voltage caps is to use a incandescent lightbulb with a socket, and connect the 2 ends across the cap. if it discharges it will light up a bit to tell you that you just saved yourself from a nasty shock. use a 100W bulb.
This is taken from a blog entry by Justine Yong, someone who has posted his ebook about LCD repairs everywhere on the net.

can someone help identify the parts to replace?
I have a case mod ccfl inverter that runs very hot and today it suddenly fails. I opened it up and see 2 heavily burnt spots under the transistors.
I saw D1804 SX 02 markings on both of these pieces but I don't know what compatible parts may be, searching those numbers on google doesn't yield definite results.
see attached for pictures.
Is it acceptable to solder a working part back and expect it to work? or I have more work to do before replacing that?
in the center pin on the transistor both has a brittle texture on the solder joint. so...Last edited by meanderer; 11-28-2010, 06:37 PM.

Re: Iiyama prolite 1900s dead
caps don't give off burning smells, at least I haven't seen one yet.
I would check the transistors first.

Re: Compaq V6000 DC power plug
I was able to use some of those universal charger's tip and solder them on. Since I don't need all 6 or 7 tips there are bound to be some lying around.

Re: Repair HP 510 laptop charger guide help
that's what they have inside?
I would get a reputable brand laptop charger instead.
newegg has an antec 65w for about 25.

repairing laptops at component level? good skills you have there.

Re: Elo TouchSystems ET1915L - how to open?
you may have to take apart the screen to dry it up further.

when you say a different monitor, did you use the same cable?

Re: VP2130b problem after "repair"
assuming you only did the power board with the right values and ratings.
I think you dislodged some cables while you are in there, reseat them see if it improves.

Re: Tools & Caps - Worthwhile ?
I used to use a WLC100 for my desolder works. But that's for monitor boards. They were thinner with less conducing layers. Since I got more experience and make some money on repairing stuff, I upgraded to WESD51. It has a digital temperature control so I always know what temperature I am at. Really nice addition.
I don't know much about replacing caps on motherboards tho. If you are a beginner I would suggest you get the WLC100 first, then sell it off and trade for the better ones.

Re: Rosewill 17" 2 seconds to black, replaced caps
just a quick update to this situation:
I tried some generic inverter boards from China, they don't work with the power supplied from the LCD main board. Since I have no other tools to test, I am giving this one up and reselling it on ebay. meanwhile I have been using it myself by powering the top CCFL's with a case mod light kit. They got so hot that the plastic casing itself has deformed.

Re: Envision 17" LCD, another 2 seconds to black
it's been a while and I got back to repair this guy again...
It seems that not everyone has read the thread in its entirety and make the comment about the CCFL. Yes, it was a problem but I made a blunder while repairing and in the process also damaged something else.
I have some knowledge in chinese, so I bought a replacement power board from a refurbisher in China. And also some CCFL tubes along with it. It took about 3 weeks to arrive but total costed me less than $20 including shipping and customs....Last edited by meanderer; 10-23-2010, 11:17 AM.

Re: hp dv6700 screen flickering
bad gpu problems doesn't fail like that... the way people diagnose a bad GPU (that some people would call for reflow) was that it WON'T work with external monitor.
I would put the suspect on the CCFL, panel, or the connectors. After securing the connectors I would test the CCFL with a known good inverter first. Then the panel (oh no...)

Re: DV6000 GPU reflow issue
usually, beyond this reflow thing the motherboard is beyond reasonable repair. Might as well gut it for parts.
