Laid flat, or standing upright? How do you fix it?

I've seen and heard many different things about not laying a plasma or LCD screen down flat because it can damage the panel.

In a way it makes sense that it could cause unneeded stress on the panel and thus cause it to crack.

The question then becomes: Do we attempt to work on the screens standing up?

So far I've been tilting the screens so they are proped at about a 45deg angle on a sofa with the cusions used to support the panel. Thoughts?

I believe the whole "no laying flat" is for transporting, especially for vehicles. They extra gravity from bumps and dips in the road can cause the thin screen to flex far enough to break. I have worked on screens laying flat all the time, just make sure nothing is under it, and if possible, tape cardboard to the front of the screen to protect it during repair.

If you are really worried about it, get some acoustic foam, and use it to support the screen when it is laying down.

On some you have to remove the base to remove some of the circuit boards so you really don't have a choice. I have been using styrofoam to gently lay them on face first.

The best is a sturdy, non abrasive material. Philips recommends a pair of anti-static foam beams roughly 6" square and 3' long. They are laid on the workbench and the set laid face down on them. You can even slide a mirror onto the workbench and see the screen.

I made a pair of metal stands that bolt to the back. It really depends on the type of tv it is. I like a beach towel or clean cardboard if I place them face down. I always move them upright. As plainbill said above It`s nice to see the picture if you have it raised off the table a bit.

HP 440 G2 no power after short in flat lcd
              by dclass-pro
Hi all guys, I need your help. On a HP 440 G2 - LA-B181P laptop I was changing the speakers and the pc worked fine everything ok.
After closing it all with all the screws I realized that it would no longer turn on. I opened it and found that the flat cable of the LCD was shorted. I ordered a new flat but the motherboard still won't turn on, as soon as I connect the power supply the connector LED always flashes and the power button stays on.
I tried to check the voltages and the 3v and 5v are there, on the battery pin (with no battery connected) I have about 2v.
              I tried to...

A2337 not working with flat battery

Looking for some advice on a 820-02016 board as I don't have much experience with these M1 machines. Learning the nuances of them as I go.

So the history of this machine was it had been in a bag where a bottle of water leaked. Presented as dead about a month ago, corrosion was mainly around the battery connector and it's sub-PCB. Some corrosion was noted on the board around UC300, CC325, CW1C7, CW1C8. That was it really.

Now without battery connected, USB-C will stay at 5V and cycle between 0 and 120ma. PPBUS_AON is cycling between 0 to 12.3V. If battery is connected,...

              fixing flat two tv screens
              by rookiecap
I am trying to fix two flat tv screens. They have problems that I am not familiar how to deal with and if they are fixable at all.

              1) the first TV is RCA 32: LCD combo tv+dvd, model RLCDV3282A-B. It was distorting images in sync with sounds. The sounds were distorted too. Then it was shutting down automatically. I replaced all visible electrolytic capacitors on power supply board. After repair, the image and sound are restored but tv still shuts downs unexpectedly usually after couple of minutes. I do not know what to do next. What might be the culprit and how to trace/inspect...

              Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

              Rejoin cut flat cable ?
              by zioricci
Is there a way to rejoin the two parts of a cut laptop keyboard flat cable? I was thinking about silver paste but I don't know if it can be done well.

I assume that the soldering iron can be left closed in the drawer....
