A2337 not working with flat battery

Looking for some advice on a 820-02016 board as I don't have much experience with these M1 machines. Learning the nuances of them as I go.

So the history of this machine was it had been in a bag where a bottle of water leaked. Presented as dead about a month ago, corrosion was mainly around the battery connector and it's sub-PCB. Some corrosion was noted on the board around UC300, CC325, CW1C7, CW1C8. That was it really.

Now without battery connected, USB-C will stay at 5V and cycle between 0 and 120ma. PPBUS_AON is cycling between 0 to 12.3V. If battery is connected, you get 20V, board boots and it charges fine. At the time, I thought these machines just need a battery to work. However it comes back a month later dead.

I have a spare A2337, I get 20V on this one without battery connected. Putting the board in this chassis, it boots and battery begins to charge (which proves the original battery is ok). Battery was flat, so let it charge. Put back the liquid damage board, plug in battery it works fine and boots ok. Still cycles if no battery is plugged in (or battery is flat).

So I take this is obviously an ISL9240 related issue as it pertains to an absent or flat battery. No liquid damage was noted in this area, but I'm assuming the battery corrosion may have damaged something in this area.

Correction. PPBUS_AON is cycling between 12.3V and roughly 8V. I've compared diode values etc around U5200 and the rest of the charging circuit. Can't see anything out of the ordinary so am thinking its a ISL9240 issue. Don't have any so will order.
