That's quite nice. I googled it and found there's v4.0 out now...

Re: LG 1511S needs to warm up!!
I'd almost guarantee it's a bad cap; they don't always swell up. See my post from earlier today: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20109Re: LG 1511S needs to warm up!!<br /...?t=20109

Re: Poloroid FLM-3701 Model number 667-L37K5-20A (KAS20) power supply board
I built an ESR tester and like it far better than the one I bought... It's rather basic, and you don't get the exact ESR value of a cap, but I've found it works well to tell me if the cap is bad... Plus it works great to quickly test fuses.
Here's the link: http://members.shaw.ca/swstuff/esrmeter.html
I modified mine slightly to work better with low ESR caps. Once that was done, the trick to read ESR with some accuracy is to short the leads and read the meter. Then...

Poloroid FLM-3701 Model number 667-L37K5-20A (KAS20) power supply board
I just fixed this Poloroid FLM-3701 TV after it sat on my bench for a week, and thought my experience (which I have repeated several times) would serve as a good lesson for newbies: Never assume a cap is good just because it looks fine. I've gotten caught several times here and it still gets me sometimes LOL.
All the large filter caps on the outputs had visibly failed. I replaced them all. TV Still did not come up, so I checked the rails. No voltage on any of them. SOoooo, I checked the 120V input, no problems with that. Checked the bridge and large 400V filter cap, no problems....Last edited by el3ctroded; 04-17-2012, 12:59 PM.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
Gave up on the PSU as I found a brand new one on ebay cheap. Screen now works.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
Soldering redone, no effect.
Yes
yes, but I'm gonna have to take them off the board to test cause circuitry is interfering. None test as open, but I'm getting irregular results....

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
Here's the PDF. The only way I could upload it was using a 2-part RAR file. (Rar is another type of zip). Download both parts. Then to open it and extract the PDF file, get 7zip from here. 7zip will open the file and you can extract the pdf.
To open the file, simply tell 7zip to open the part1 file; it will automatically find the part 2 so long as they are both in the same directory.Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
I just tried a new test... I hooked the screen from this samsung monitor up to an inverter that is known to be good. It lit up the screen and stayed on, so I now know 100% that the screen and CCFLs are Ok and the problem is with the inverter circuit.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you.
Alexanna: Yes, I had all CCFLs connected at all times during the test. I was just swapping out one for another. I wouldn't mind looking at the return voltages. My meter doesn't have min/max record feature, but I have a 200MHz scope...
Rtech: Do they light fully? Do you mean the entire expanse of the tube lights up? I'll double-check.
Pedro: They are not in series, and I'm not sure what you mean by "one two wire connector". The transformer has a single output...

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
Any ideas? It has 4 ccfls, one transformer per 2 ccfls. And one ccfl on each transformer doesn't light at all. Both ccfls are known good.
I'm really at a loss to explain how that could happen.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
I have a known good but broken LCD screen I keep around for testing. It has 4 good CCFLs in it.
I attached the samsung power board to the 4 CCFLs in my broken panel. It still does 2s. to black.
I also have done your method, same result no matter which CCFL is swapped.
I did notice this time that 2 of the CCFL connectors failed to light up the spare ccfl..... One is being fed by one transformer, one fed by the other transformer. Odd.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
Got in the caps. The ones I ordered are 6kV, but that shouldn't matter. Put them in and the screen still blinks to black.
Hooked up 4 known good CCFLs and same result.
The secondaries on the transformers measure 472 and 468
I have also replaced the electrolytic caps.
I have re-soldered the joints on the transformers and numerous others.
Still 2s to black
I doubt my new 12pF 6kV and 33pF 6kV caps would be the issue... But maybe the transformer or the IC driving the transformer...

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
Ok. Digikey doesn't have 31pF, but they do 33pF. I'm gonna go with that unless you suggest otherwise.

Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm
Flash on, goes dim, then off.
I found a small non-electrolytic cap at the output of the secondary on the transformer in the inverter circuit that is bad, but I'm not sure how to read those... One says 12J 3kv. I know 3kv is 3000V, but is 12J 12pF or what?
The other one says 31J 3kv.
And are the caps that are always on the transformer's secondary in inverter circuits usually ceramic caps?
Thanks!

Re: FLX-3202 Element made by poloroid
I found a completely blown bad cap on the HD TV tuner board. Replaced it, but no difference; with the board in or out, the TV does the same thing. Removed the other tuner board and same thing. Also, I am fairly certain, due to the noise that was coming out of the transformers, that the inverter board is bad, because I have heard the same noise once before on an inverter circuit that tested fine but would fail after a few minutes. Drove me crazy figuring it out. It was part of the psu. Replaced it and that tv still works.
I'm going...

Re: FLX-3202 Element made by poloroid
I think the video board is bad too. Dunno how or where. The only other time I saw this type of thing was with a bad video board. I seem to get mostly hard-to-fix flat panel TVs... And I can't find the video board for this one.

Re: Ever seen an LCD do this?
Laptop LCD model number
LTD154EX0V
or
LTN154X1-L02
I say Or because I have 2 identical laptops, both have bad screens, and these are the two models of screen in them.
I found a used LTN154X1-L03 for $45 shipped, so I would really like to know if it's fully compatible...
Thx

Ever seen an LCD do this?
I've not seen these fading vertical white lines before, and want to know if I write off the LCD as bad or what?
Thanks!...Last edited by el3ctroded; 03-14-2011, 12:58 PM.
