I've been impressed with the Philips plasma sets I've found. I've had no real problem finding free service manuals, and the schematics and troubleshooting information is first rate. Problems ranged from a couple of bad caps, a bad switching controller and fet switches, and a bad main control card. All things considered, I prefer Samsung panels to LG Electronics panels.

One thing to wrap your head around is 80+% of a plasma TV is the display and supporting modules. And these are made buy the company that made the panels. The small signal board (tuner, signal processing board), speakers, audio amps, etc are usually made by the company whose logo is on the set. I would estimate that 80-90% of Philips sets use Samsung panels. I am aware that some were made by LG Electronics.

If you search eBay on the model number of the TV, you will often find things like power supplies, Y-Sus, Z-Sus, and buffer cards listed for that set. By searching on the part numbers of those cards, you will quickly identify who made those cards, and thus the panel.

I found that out on my first plasma. I quickly decided to use the panel model number when looking for boards and/ or board part numbers. I haven`t had a phillips apart yet. I found one on craig`s list around 100.00. I feel better knowing what they are now. Your input has helped me a great deal! Thanks again, Cadiman
