    REplacement resistor........what to order?

    See encosed pic.

I need to order a replacement resistor for the resistor shown in the enclosed pic. I know i cant just order any old resistor due to current limits......any idea on what i should order?

Does the color of the body of the resistor indicate anything on what i should order?

It's a power resistor, probably metal film, 1 or 2 watt. Measure it's size; that will tell you it's power rating. If I read the color bands properly, it's a red, green, brown, gold, so it's a 150 ohm, 5% tolerance.

If it's marked 150 and measures 150, why replace it?

I looked up the 1W, 2W, and 3W metal film resistors on digikey. Links are below: Why is the 2W so much more than the 1W or 3W? Could also put in a 3W.........that wont hurt anything will it? I still need to measure the physical dimensions.........cant do it right now......i dont have board right now.

        1W:

        2W:

A 3W resistor will probably be physically larger so you need to be careful that it actually fits in. Besides that the only effect will be that it will be cooler than a 2W resistor.

            that's a fuseable safety resistor.

if it meters o.k. leave alone - never replace with a metal-oxide or carbon one.
the difference will be the size of the flame if anything goes wrong!

              but metal-film is ok......right?

I have two boards. Well, actually my friend has one board and i have another. They are exactly the same. On his board the resistor "lead" is broken and he can not solder back into board. So he needs to replace it. Also, underneath his board where the resistor goes....the metal has lifted so he needs another resistor with a longer lead so he can solder it to some metal on the same trace. Hope this clears up why i need the new resistor.

No. STJ identified it as a fuseable safety resistor. If it draws too much current it will safely go open. Non-fuseable resistors tend to do nasty things. Things like suddenly decrease in resistance, arc, spread hot bits of metal film around, or possible burst into flame.

you can replace it with another fuseable one.
they are metal-oxide but they are special - they are designed to fail without catching fire.

that's why they are coated with cement instead of being dipped in resin.

                    Can you suggest a replacement.

                    Thanks for the info.

                      i just did - 150ohm fuseable resistor.
how big is it in mm?

                          Re: REplacement resistor........what to order?

The resistor is about 11mm long by about 4 to 4.3mm in diameter.

                            probably 2w then.

Just now getting around to placing an order.

So should i order the 3W just to be sure or go with the 2W?

                              Here is the 2W:
