Screen reconditioning (slightly off topic)

I have a 32" LCD that I repaired the power supply on to resell. I didn't notice the deep screen scratches till I had already gotten it home. They were noticeable, so I polished them out carefully with a dremel and polishing compound (they were much too deep to do it by hand, and the polishing did work actually). Now the scratches are gone, but the polished areas are very shiny because I polished off the matte screen finish. The Tv looks perfect from certain angles, but terrible where you can see the reflections off the polished areas (its very distracting and unattractive when the tv is on and in a lighted room). This is just a fun project, so I'm not too worried, but does anyone know a solution for this by chance? Any ideas at all? I can give some attempts and post results.

Why not polish the whole thing to at least make it uniform?

If you have not buffed thru the polarizer all the way to the glass, I would suggest trying something like 800 grit sandpaper, but not sanding with it...try rolling it on the shiny spot in hopes of roughing the polarizer up somewhat. Sort of like rolling your finger when having your fingerprints taken.
Just something to think about trying...

Whatever you end up doing, be sure you only mess with the anti-glare coating. If you accidentally cut into the polarizer (which is directly under the anti-glare sheet), areas with no polarizer will show up as white.

weirdlookinguy... do you mean that if I have gone all the way to the glass, there will be no image at all in those areas? only white? That isn't the case as of yet. I wasn't aware that would happen. I thought that after the anti-glare there was the actual glass.

I have thought of polishing the whole thing, but am leaving that as my last resort option, because after that, I have no options. (it will be very time consuming if that's what I do)

I went ahead and tried roughing up the shiny spots. It was to no avail though. Nothing changed (didn't really rough up at all). I thought this meant I was to the glass, but I guess not if weirdlookinguy said is true.

Is there a chance the "polarizer is under the glass, and I need not worry about it? (I'm not too familiar with LCD construction I guess)

good ideas though, any more?

you could ask at lumenlab.com. they're into projectot building and mess around with that stuff a lot.

there's a polarizer on both sides of the glass, so a definite no to that question.
