Re: Screen reconditioning (slightly off topic)
weirdlookinguy... do you mean that if I have gone all the way to the glass, there will be no image at all in those areas? only white? That isn't the case as of yet. I wasn't aware that would happen. I thought that after the anti-glare there was the actual glass.
I have thought of polishing the whole thing, but am leaving that as my last resort option, because after that, I have no options. (it will be very time consuming if that's what I do)
I went ahead and tried roughing up the shiny spots. It was to...

Screen reconditioning (slightly off topic)
I have a 32" LCD that I repaired the power supply on to resell. I didn't notice the deep screen scratches till I had already gotten it home. They were noticeable, so I polished them out carefully with a dremel and polishing compound (they were much too deep to do it by hand, and the polishing did work actually). Now the scratches are gone, but the polished areas are very shiny because I polished off the matte screen finish. The Tv looks perfect from certain angles, but terrible where you can see the reflections off the polished areas (its very distracting and unattractive when the tv is on...

Re: Akai 27" Turns on and off and on and....
the audio amp? Just curious, why do you jump to the audio? I have already tried turning on the unit with the "amp connector" (thats what it is labeled as) disconnected from the main board

well, this is an LCD tv. No tubes. I have already tried disconnecting the inverter board and it made no difference

Re: Akai 27" Turns on and off and on and....
yes. That too, I can hear the power supply click on and off, but of course, not when the external power supply was used. (I had it hooked up to an old computer power supply)

Re: Akai 27" Turns on and off and on and....
alright I finally had time to mess with this again. I don't believe this is a power supply issue anymore. I kinda did what aliasdck suggested except not all the outputs are labeled... so i instead did this:
I hooked the main board power-in connectors to an external power supply with the correct voltages (these ones I know). Nothing unnecessary is hooked up to the main board. Only power-in, and the tiny board that has the power on light (so i know if it's working or not. This results in the same actions. It keeps powering...

Re: Akai 27" Turns on and off and on and....
Ok, I re capped the power supply board, and nada. No change at all. What could possibly be making it turn on by itself when plugged in and then power cycling over and over? I'm at a complete loss. Anyone had similar?

Alright, I'll give it a shot. They just all look good. It's gonna be a chore getting the few that are under the heatsinks.

Akai 27" Turns on and off and on and....
I'm back with another issue on another tv:
This is a strange problem to me. Maybe someone else has experienced it as well.
I received a 27" Akai tv with built in dvd player Model Number LCT2701TD.
When I plug the unit in and flip on the main power switch (not the "ON" button), the tv automatically kicks on and the screen comes up for about 2-5 seconds, then it kicks off, then it repeats. Pressing the power on button does nothing to the cycle. I assumed power supply, or stuck button.
The tv does the same thing whether or...

Re: Sony Bravia no picture but backlight on
HEY HEY!! I got my T-Con board today. 15 minutes later I was looking at one snazzy working tv. I still don't know what was wrong with the old board, but at least with all your help I narrowed it down.
Thanks a lot everybody for your help!
and best of luck fixing your own

Re: Sony Bravia no picture but backlight on
My board is still on its way. It should be here tonight or tomorrow. I'm pretty anxious. I really hope it fixes it after all this time. I got mine from Discount-Merchants for about $50 (again, I was the one with the Original tv in this post, a 32" Bravia)

Re: Sony Bravia no picture but backlight on
Dang. Well then, I'll do some searching for another for a bit.
I do have a "32 Toshiba Regza with a smashed screen. The T-CON boards on them look different, but just to check... this other tv couldn't help me any could it?

Re: Sony Bravia no picture but backlight on
Is there a way to determine which is the issue first? $50 would be worth it, but not if I found later that the screen was gone too (can't afford that for a free tv).

Re: Sony Bravia no picture but backlight on
oh, well then yes, I can indeed get audio from Component #1 with the television. I can't seem to make the audio switch to the other sources though with the "input" button.

Re: Sony Bravia no picture but backlight on
Yes, I had already checked the fuse on the T-CON board (thank you for the new name). It tests positive for continuity. You said to "Blindly change to a video input with video and audio attached". The only connection like that I can think of is HDMI or the coaxial, am I correct? I'll have to find someone with an HDMI output device since I can't see anything to set up with my converter box... I'll get on that soon hopefully.
