Anyway to recover Hi-8 tapes that donot play?

Anyway to recover Hi-8 video tapes that do not play? It is not the problem of the this Hi-8 player.

Maybe someone has a trick, or recommends a player that can play these tapes.

The player I have is a Sony Camcorder TR-101, and it will not play them anymore. I just want to play them one more time to convert them to digital format.

    Thanks,

    Martin

Saying it won't play them doesn't explain the problem. It depends on what the problem is. An old TR-101 likely needs about 100 elec. caps replaced by now. Try playing the tapes in another unit. It is also possible they were recorded when the tape guides were out of alignment. Are there noise bands at either the top or bottom? usually bottom. If that is the case the player can sometimes be miss aligned to play the tapes so they can be copied.

You can send them off to legacy box and they will convert them for you. They are very pricey though.

          Thanks RJ,

Yea..I'm in the CAP replacing business with 90's Mercedes cars. Fully aware, 100 or so surface mount caps is no easy task on thin PCBs..

You know the first few seconds of the tape near the lead-out clear section plays, and the rest goes into snowball image, yet one can kinda make out the faint image on fast forward.

I just do not want to fork-out $200-$500 USD for another played that will need caps too. If they were under $100 I may just gamble it, or just go to my " goodwill" stores and see what I find?

I will take my TR101 apart and seewhat it has...

          Decisions Decisions.....

          Thank you for the reply

Thanks for the reply. I will have to check them out.

I like this. Has some reviews to it also. I found one guy locally in my area:

          https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cr...253422033.html

Found one guy on Facebook Marketplace for $5 a tape. but the Amazon one has some good reviews...

          Thank you for this one...

Probably a good bet but if you want to risk a used one like you mention, there's some players on ebay for about 50 and up.

Sonos Play 1 pulsing power supply
              by Goldwing1973
I'm rather new to repairing electronics, i do know the basics of most components but never actually repaired a PCB, but i want to change that.
So, i bought a faulty Sonos Play 1 speaker with the intention of finding the fault, and replace the damaged part.
Well, i did find the fault, i replaced parts that i thought caused the problem, but no-go.

The problem is a pulsing power supply, when i connect the mains to the board and hook up my thermal cam i see R306,307 and 308 getting warm, but i assume that's normal.
But, whats is not normal is the pulsing of resistor...

Sonos Play 1 Gen. 2 with no power
              by dbuergi
              Hi all,

i got a Sonos Play 1 Gen. 2 with no light and no power. Until now i only worked on Gen. 1 and know which components "like" to blow up but at this board everything looks fine. Until now i also didn't find any short.
The only problem i found was chip 6D9 heating up to 110c when power supply is connected. Since this is a PMIC i will replace it.
Do you have any other ideas what to check or can these chips get faulty without any other component quitting the job?

Tascam CC-222MKIV Need PLAY / RECORD button assy on CD side.
              by mecha1166
Hi. A customer brought in a Tascam CC-222MKIV. Play/Record buttons on CD are broken. I am looking for a mechanical parts breakdown so I can get the part number for this key assy. I found the schematic online, and I can tell you the schematic locations for those switches themselves. There is a plastic assembly with buttons that each have shafts to poke the surface switches on the circuit board right behind the faceplate. That is what I need. Thanks!

Lenovo Carbon X1 9th(20XW). Failed to recover ME firmware.
              by lamo
Hello. Customer tried to update BIOS via Lenovo software. Update has been failed and unit was dead completely. I found working BIOS dump and flashed it. Now unit turns on very slowly, and, after every booting it tries to recover ME firmware and fails everytime. Also, unit can't detect nvme disk, so i can't boot windows to flash ME with Lenovo software. Can someone provide to me 100% working dump? There're 2 flash IC's: U49 and U801. I flashed only U49. Thanks in advance.
