    Vizio E550I-B2 bad picture

    Hi guys

    I got this TV from a friend, it initially would work well for about 5 minutes, and then switch off. I took it apart, and my first thoughts were backlights, so I tested the backlights with my Backlight Tester from SJ, founding one strip pulling less voltage than the other strips. I bought a brand new set from SJ, replaced all the old strips. The TV came on and worked with beautiful picture and sound for about two hours. It stopped working again. I read all the threads on this model, found CN202, resoldered all the pins, (the pins were loose), and thought my TV is sorted.

    When I plug it in, the backlights come on and stay on. There is however nothing on the screen. I first thought it might be the T-CON and replaced that with a new one from SJ. That didn't help. I thought to replace the Mainboard and the T-Con again, currently when switched on, it shows this garbled image, however if I use the remote on it, I can see the TV respond to the remote(change of garbage on screen).

    With Mainboard disconnected

    CN101
    1-4 = Not used
    5 = 0V
    6-11 = Gnd
    12 = 0V
    13 = Fluctuating from 0V going up to 5.3V
    14 = 4.991V
    15 = 4.991V

    With MB connected
    CN201
    1,2 = GND
    3,4 = 20.65V

    CN101
    1-4 = Not used
    5 = 11.91V
    6-11 = Gnd
    12 = 3.311V
    13 = 0V
    14 = 4.991V
    15 = 4.991V

    On the LED Driver board is a placeholder for a Cap TC6, reading here is 26.79V

    Can someone please help

    This is likely not a power issue. Bad lcd, or video board

      Hi Knoxrebel

      Thank you for your answer. This is the second new Video board, and if I connect only one of the LVDS cables going to the panel, the image is still the same. Is there another way I can test the panel? Do you think this can be the Mainboard, I bought it off eBay, and I know you sometime buy faulty boards off eBay

        The lines near the top of the screen indicate a issue with a side tab likely. I have seen this model where someone takes the screen out to get to the leds and when installing the front trim one of multiple side tabs gets folded over and damaged. That would be the first place to look is pull off the front trim and see if there is any damage.

          Hi Nicholas1110

          I will do so, just strange that it worked for a few hours without problems and then suddenly died. Do you think the PS is good

            do the "standard" test.... one at a time unplug the tcon to panel cables and see what happens with the display. Of course, do this without any power on / unplugged in... go from there.

              Hi Budwich

              I did this already. The same kind of image appears with either of the panel cables removed, of cause only half of the screen though.

                  HI guys

                  I could not get the image again I posted in my original post of the screen. Please find herewith the results/images I get when removing one tab between the panel and the T-CON. The third photo is an image of when I clicked NETFLIX on the remote. I can see the image on the screen changes when I press buttons on the remote.

                  This TV was working fine for 2-3 hours and then suddenly went like this.

                      Re: Vizio E550I-B2 bad picture

                      you need to post a picture of the back showing how everything is connected. Further, you likely have significant problems because normally when you disconnect one of the cables going from the tcon to panel, that side goes "nice white". Yours shows none of this. That could be because of a tcon issue and / or problems with the bottom edge board (shorted smd components / caps). You need to check these with a meter. You should not see a "short" across any of those.

                        Have you removed the trim off the front of the tv and inspected the side tabs? Just because it worked for a few hours doesn’t mean they were not damaged. Most components fail from heat, if a tab was pinched it would have caused excess heat on that tab and failed.

                          Hi guys

                          You were right. I killed this screen. I removed the outside trim last night finding some of the tabs on both sides doubled over and pinched. I'll trash this TV.

                          Thank you Budwich, nicholas1110 for helping me on the right path. I guess that is how we learn.

                          Thanks again
