    Sony 46EX400 dim picture

Just picked this tv up for free. I haven't opened it up yet to take pictures as everything seems to work except the picture is dim.
I've never worked on an lcd before.
Does this mean that one of the bulbs is out?
If so, can they be replaced?

It looks as either the lower tubes are not lighting at full brighness (aged) or there is an issue with the inverter.

Ok, I got the tv working but now another issue has cropped up.
When I try to turn it on, the front led changes from red to green as it should but nothing comes up on the screen.
If I unplug the IR board, the tv functions as it should by using the side buttons.
I can even plug the IR board in while it’s on and use the remote but if I turn the tv off, it won’t turn on again until I unplug the IR board.

Does that suggest a faulty main board or faulty IR board.
I can order an Ir board for under $10.

So what did you do to get the TV working as far as the Dim picture is concerned?

Hmm, I dot see the relationship between the dimming pictures issue and the TV cable/scanning. So if you only use DVD or BluRay the pictures were not dim?

                  Re: Sony 46EX400 dim picture

I’m not exactly sure what the problem was bud. I picked the tv up as not working. Didn’t ask any details because it was free and left on the porch for me.
Brought it home, plugged it in and saw the dim picture and figured that was the issue, bad cfl’s.
After taking the pics and posting, I tried to actually set it up and the picture was fine. Hooked it up to my cable and scanned for channels and it seemed fine.

So I’m guessing the not working part was actually the IR sensor or the main board because last night it wouldn’t turn on, neither by remote or side buttons.
The front led would change from red to green but nothing on the screen at all.
So today I opened it up. Tried some things, one of them being disconnecting the Ir sensor board from the main board.
At that point, I could turn the tv on and off, do everything by the side panel.
While on, I plugged the Ir board back in and could use the remote. If I turned the tv off, it wouldn’t turn on again unless I unplugged the Ir board.

I ordered one from eBay for $10, it comes with a 60 free return

Didn’t bother even trying to check. The whole board is tiny. I would not even want to replace one of those tiny smds.
For $10 it’s just easier replacing it.

Hello, Last week I bought the 50" Sony X80j tv everything was working fine, untill I plugged the tv in a ups power supply 650va the tv remote control became unresponsive and the TV became laggy after a while the picture quality isn't the same as before the tv seems less brighter and the picture is somehow blurry, people's faces don't look as natural as before, there is a mini orange-pink tint to the edge of people's faces especially in NETFLIX Dolby Vision like in One Piece ep1 Alvida skin tone, my intention was to protect the tv but something went wrong I checked the ups with a multimeter,...

5.5 year old 85 inch Sony Bravia X950G started showing gray horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen and the picture shifts slightly vertically when it happens. The lines sometimes get bigger/smaller vertically and bounce back. See the video for the problem. It seems to be happening after it warms up after an hour or so. Happens regardless of source. Right now there's nothing but power cable connected and it's happening. We did hook up a new Nintendo Switch to our HDMI switching receiver today, and played for a while with no issues, but this problem didn't occur til a few hours later while...

                                Hey Guys,

So a few months ago my Sony XBR 49x900e TV screen stopped displaying the picture but the backlight comes on and I still get sound when I use the remote and navigate to certain apps. I haven't checked anything with the meter yet but started with ordering some replacement boards. I've tried replacing the BMKS board (used from ebay) and also completed the firmware upgrade based on Nicks TV repairs youtube video. I've also replaced the TCON (twice) and PIB.

All of these changes have resulted in the same issue with no picture. I've also tried disconnecting the ribbons...

I have a Sony KD-43XE8005 with no picture on the TV when powered on. Audio and backlight work ok when powering on. Solid white indication light showing on front of tv bezel.

If I gently rub the ribbon cable on the right an image or purple black bars appear. The cable doesnt appear damaged, and if swapped with the other ribbon cable the same flickering symptoms can be seen.
