Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
Funny a brand new strip is of such poor quality, time for a refund on that junk.

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
Ok I'll do that then.I would just remove both plugs and connect them with wires, then make sure non of the connections touch the metal panel. Then also inspect the other connectors while it is apart.
It looks like they had poor solder connections between the plug and the strip, Then it started arcing and burnt the trace. So you might want to resolder ALL the strip plugs
One of the light spreaders popped off when I was removing the strip. I don't have any super glue, but I do have Loctite SI 595 Clear RTV Silicone Adhesive... Would this work to reattach the spreader? The silicone is supposedly good up to 450°F.Leave a comment:

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
Can I repair this or does this strip need to be replaced?
Edit:
Trying to pull the strips back to place something anti-cunductive resulted in the connector falling apart.
Checked eBay and someone wants nearly $20 for a single used strip. So, could I remove the connector and solder wires between the connection points?Attached Filesif you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

You have bad contact resistance on the connector so it is heated up like that.Leave a comment:

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
That's what I'm hoping for. It seemed to be originating from near the bottom center, which it where the strips connect. Perhaps the connector it's arcing on the frame when voltage is applied?
So in the likelihood it's something I can easily repair, what should my expectations as far as life expectancy? I never used them at full brightness, but whatever is happening now makes me fear that their life span has been dramatically decreased.Leave a comment:

With that burn smell going on, I'm thinking the problem should be visible maybe.Leave a comment:

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
Ok, looks like you need to get in there again, wonder if this is one of those models where a problem on the powerboard keeps messing up the backlights or if you have just a backlight short, bare wire, or some such.Leave a comment:

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
Tried all different orientations and no change. However, I believe I found where the problem resides, and that is the backlights. While they were on and flashing, I started smelling hot electronics. I smelled around all of the boards and nothing. The smell was coming through the vent hole in the attached picture.overall behavior first.... trying to find a "normal" position (ie. vertical position) where the tv operates properly... then once there you can start checking things to form a baseline along with possibly understanding what the difference is from "proper upright position"... basically, it costs nothing to do the "flips"... and proceed from there carefullly especially with the meters that you have. :-)
Edit:
I'm preparing myself to open up the panel for the third time.. But I have a few questions for. If an LED itself is shorted, in this particular TV, would the rest of the lights be working and that one would be off, or would it still be on? If it's shorted, can it be desoldered and replaced (I have the original set still)? And finally, if it's a short at the connector between strips, can that be repaired (ie. Electrical tape behind it)?
I'm not up for purchasing a whole new set again as these are out of warranty now.Attached Filesif you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
you might try further "panel orientation" tests. How about flipping the panel "upside down"... ie. top down, bottom up. Then also try side up / side down. See if things change.Leave a comment:

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
Here is the link to exactly what I purchased from Shopjimmy:Shorted out LED in the series connected LED's will still allow the LED strings to light up, open LED will cause the whole LED not to light up. Too many shorted out LED will also cause the LED circuit shutdown. Shorted circuit in one of the LED string to the chassis will also cause the shutdown.
What kind of the LED strips/assemblies are used in your TV.
I run into panels that have one of the LED strip's wire nicked by the chassis and cause intermittent shorts circuits to the chassis.
BTW, do you have LED tester?
https://www.shopjimmy.com/samsung-bn...-12-strips.htm
So under normal, wall mounted use, what would cause an led to short circuit? When I installed the strips I used strong double sided tape to secure them to the chassis.
Also, if an led is shorted, would it be off or would it still light up? I see no darkspots when the screen is lit and blank.Leave a comment:

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
The Samsung I had for service was actually a 40" a UN40H5203 (mfg. 2014). When I first got it, It appeared dead. After a few checks I unplugged the leds and the tv turned on.
This was the only time I had seen a led string shorted to the chassis. Lifting the led string off the chassis restored the voltage but still no light. One led was all black around it. but after checking the led strings I found most of the led's on the 3 strings were bad. This was common for this model.
The reason I mentioned this was because I read thisTV face down, power on, I reconnected the backlights.. Raised the set to a 30° angle and watched for about 10 seconds and it was working perfectly. Raised it upright to 45° and it went haywire againLast edited by R_J; 01-14-2020, 06:26 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
Was that a much older model by chance? I know that the way the LEDs are configured in my model wouldn't allow for a a single burnt out LED. The entire set of LEDs would remain off.
I understand that manufacturing practices often produce short-lived and defective products, but these strips are only ~14mo old and I used them at only 7/10 backlight.
Have any of you experienced poor quality and/or life from Shopjimmy's backlights? My only issue this far was with the previous set in which the spreaders started falling off.Leave a comment:

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
I had a 32" samsung with bad led's and one of the led's was shorted to the aluminum strip, so it was actually killing the led voltage. If I lifted the strip off the metal panel, the aluminum strip had the full led voltage on it.Last edited by R_J; 01-14-2020, 04:40 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Samsung 60" LED blank screen and WILL NOT STAY OFF
So at this point, are you still getting the same reaction?I just attempted that and the very first pin I touched blew the multimeter (fuse?). The TV is fine however. I undoubtedly believe at this point that there is a short occurring somewhere within one of the LED strips. TV face down, power on, I reconnected the backlights.. Raised the set to a 30° angle and watched for about 10 seconds and it was working perfectly. Raised it upright to 45° and it went haywire again. This makes me think that one of the connections between LED strips is somehow arcing on the chassis.Leave a comment:

by mecha1166KDL-60EX500. Comes on fine, sound is fine, backlights come on. Blank screen. Already tried reset POWER/VOL-. Anyone else have this problem? Possibly bad T-Con RUNTK4244ZZ or panel? Could main or power supply cause this? There were 2 blown 560u 35v on power going to backlights but they were still working fine. Thanks for your help.

by ChrissygizmoI have a Samsung ue55nu7021k that has working backlights but has a dark blank screen..
I've tried a couple of different boards from a friend without success, however, one of the boards produced the Samsung Smart logo on the screen so I'm guessing it's the main board that's at fault, is there anything I could try to repair the board or is it a case of buying a new one ?
Thanks in advance... -
by dicky96Hi guys
I'm trying to fix this laptop screen
Basically the owner is a computer shop and they brought it to me with two screens. They said the repair shop they use could not fix it, so I thought i would try to see if I am better than their current repairer!
OK so I have the original screen which works but has lines across the bottom quarter of the screen
I have the replacement screen, which they fitted and it worked. They then put the laptop on one side for a couple of weeks until they found a buyer. When they showed it to the buyer, the screen would... -
by mrtekHi I am new to this kind of repairs but I want to learn..I have a Samsung UN65JS8500F. the TV used to work and I tried to fix darker areas in the middle only ( img 1,2,3). I thought the led strip were bad..not the case. I did not research in advance what kind and where the LED were located. In this model they are located vertically on right and left side. Took the TV apart and put it back together. Now the tv shows no welcome screen and no sound is available thru the speakers. ..just a black screen..Backlight LED do turn on...also noticed a 5 blink code , not sure if that was there before. I can...6 Photos
