I'm embarrassed to say, but while on my knees reattaching the frame the previous time, I lost balance and actually rolled over onto the panel! Miraculously it did not crack! I did however have it placed onto a 3/4" comforter on the floor. Regardless, it goes against all odds that it survived, but you can only imagine my gratitude.

Thanks! Would you know I've taken the panel apart 4 times in the last 3 years?!

Thanks to you, budm, and everyone else who helped me diagnose and fix it as well as my Hisense in another thread, which is still working great after hours of N64 use!

After revisiting the menu I found that the Backlight is 1-20 not 1-10 as I was previously thinking. I actually had it set at 12, so I've been running them at about 55%.

I wouldn't be surprised if they fail, They are overdriven, probably on purpose so they can sell more tvs, some peeps do a resistor mod to bring down the current, some tvs also have backlight settings in the service menu, some tvs not all of course as soon as you change a certain setting in regular menu, they jump up to vivid again which is max.

Would it be true to say that they're similar to car parts? If one tie rod goes out, the other side isn't far behind because they've been through the same use and abuse?

I know LEDs are supposed to have an incredibly long lifetime, but it just seems that isn't even remotely true in TVs.

Well if it's your own tv, I'd go with the lowest backlight setting you can tolerate, they might last quite a while, it's when they are maxed that they burn out pretty quickly and if one burns out you already know the drill.

They have yet to email me back. At this point I think they are just ignoring me. I wanted to share my "Success Story" on the product page, but I read the process and they literally review your story before they'll post it. That way they don't get negative comments or reviews.

I'm reluctantly going to reassemble with two strips of the OEM lights. Having a 60" panel lying on the floor makes me so nervous it's crazy, and I'm not waiting until I can afford new lights. I don't know how long the originals will last me, but I'm going to find out. I'll definitely turn the backlight down to about 60% though (usually keep it at 70).

Side note, I found a complete set of brand new backlights on eBay for just under $55 shipped. It's a different brand though (Beented?). It's still nearly $40 less than the crap Shopjimmy has.

I'm not buying any backlights from them, pretty sure they get theirs from china anyway so you can get m directly from allied for much cheaper.

I already sent it, but I was sure to include that if they don't replace them I will not purchase not ever recommend them in the future. If they don't succumb to my email, I will certainly follow up with what you said.

Side note, as evidence, I've stiched together another working strip of the factory Backlights and with the PSU in self test mode, every single one is lit.

Also tell them that there are lots of people on BADCAPS that see the failure, it will make shopjjimmy look really bad.

Well I pulled the panel back apart and tested each strip with a series of (5) 9v batteries... Turns out the old strip I put in to replace the charred one was actually good. The strip above it however, only one half works. So not only did the connector fry on one strip, but ANOTHER strip has a burnt LED now (the very first in sequence because the other 6 won't light, but the connecting 7 light up fine). I already contacted Shopjimmy a week ago and all they could offer me was $20 store credit. I understand that I'm far out of warranty, but not only do I have catastrophic manufacturing defect, but also a premature failure of another strand. With the amount they charge for a replacement set, they should far exceed "180 days". This is bullshit. I'm emailing them again and demanding a replacement set.

just run the power supply board in self test mode by do not have the cable between the power supply and the main board connected to test the backlights. You should invest in LED tester.

I'm going to have to resort to using a string of the original lights, if I can find a set that works. Is it possible for me to test the Backlights outside of the TV? I seen it done inside of the TV with 9v batteries, but as I said that was inside and plugged in. I bought a bunch of 9v batteries but couldn't get the stands I was checking to light up.

Also, when I have the panel apart, is there a way to trick the LEDs into being on without the panel connected to the tcon?

I replaced the strip with one of the original in which i half-ass tested and seen each led blink, but upon reassembly and inspection it is bad. Good news is that upon plugging in the TV it was in standby, and turning it on resulted in a full successful powerup with everything functioning as it should... Except for backlights. So either i coherse SJ into replacing this one strip, or I purchase a used one from eBay :P

After removing the connectors I can see it's burnt straight through down to the aluminum backing. I'm afraid if I solder a wire to it that it will end up arcing or electrifying the entire aluminum strip AND chassis when mounted.

I'm going to try and see if two of my old strips (the originals out of this TV) are will work and probably use them instead. I hate to have to resort to it because they probably don't have that great of life expectancy left in them

I emailed them and even stated I knew the warranty was way past. I wasn't really trying to get a free replacement or anything, but damn, their response was essentially "sorry the warranty is expired, we can't do anything. Here's a coupon code for 10% off"
I replied and sent them the pictures and just said I wanted their technical department to be aware of the failure of their product.

Anyway, I just went and picked up double sided tape and super glue, so I'm about to start working on it now. I'll pay a follow-up when finished.

I would notify Shopjimmy and show them the pictures of the failures and see what they will say.
BTW, I am glad we got down to the cause of the problem.

I know! Unfortunately Shopjimmy only has a 180 day warranty. These are now roughly 14 months old. Should last years longer imo. And they're listing kinda brags about the 'redesigned' connector that is supposedly better.

I know I sound cheap asking this, but I don't have the usual repair items at hand right now, and I really want to just get this thing back together and find it if it works.... But, Clear RTV silicone adhesive.. Can I use it to reattach the light spreader that popped off AND to remount the strip to the inside of the chassis? If not I will go get super glue and double sided tape tomorrow.

KDL-60EX500. Comes on fine, sound is fine, backlights come on. Blank screen. Already tried reset POWER/VOL-. Anyone else have this problem? Possibly bad T-Con RUNTK4244ZZ or panel? Could main or power supply cause this? There were 2 blown 560u 35v on power going to backlights but they were still working fine. Thanks for your help.

samsung ue55nu7021k backlights working but blank screen
    by Chrissygizmo
I have a Samsung ue55nu7021k that has working backlights but has a dark blank screen..

I've tried a couple of different boards from a friend without success, however, one of the boards produced the Samsung Smart logo on the screen so I'm guessing it's the main board that's at fault, is there anything I could try to repair the board or is it a case of buying a new one ?

    Thanks in advance...

HP Elitebook Screen blank - backlights but no image

    Hi guys
I'm trying to fix this laptop screen

Basically the owner is a computer shop and they brought it to me with two screens. They said the repair shop they use could not fix it, so I thought i would try to see if I am better than their current repairer!

OK so I have the original screen which works but has lines across the bottom quarter of the screen

I have the replacement screen, which they fitted and it worked. They then put the laptop on one side for a couple of weeks until they found a buyer. When they showed it to the buyer, the screen would...

Samsung UN65js8500F, no sound, blank screen and T-Con board with one LED on
    by mrtek
Hi I am new to this kind of repairs but I want to learn..I have a Samsung UN65JS8500F. the TV used to work and I tried to fix darker areas in the middle only ( img 1,2,3). I thought the led strip were bad..not the case. I did not research in advance what kind and where the LED were located. In this model they are located vertically on right and left side. Took the TV apart and put it back together. Now the tv shows no welcome screen and no sound is available thru the speakers. ..just a black screen..Backlight LED do turn on...also noticed a 5 blink code , not sure if that was there before. I can...
