Re: Kdl-75w850c
Get meter, take the back off and do visual inspection and then start taking Voltage measurement.
Also need to upload good clear pictures of the whole back side of the TV showing all the boards so we can see what we are dealing with.Never stop learning

Unplug power cord, unplug cable from powerboard to mainboard, plug power cord in, see if backlights come on and stay on.Comment

Re: Kdl-75w850c
Indicates problem with backlights. Probably lost an LED or two (losing one LED will render the set "dead").
Do you see "SONY" flashed briefly when you turn on from a reset? If not, your problem may lie on the power supply end of the backlight (if you're lucky).Comment

Re: Kdl-75w850c
There are two LED zones. If only one LED is bad, then you should see a flash of the good zone, which should light up the SONY logo (less than 0.25 seconds). If that happens, then you will have to perform open heart surgery to get at the LEDs. I have a post for a KDL-65W850C version of this series TV detailing my successful replacement of an LED.Comment

Re: Kdl-75w850c
I just finished doing a backlight repair on this Tv now that the backlight kits are available again at ShopJimmy but it's a nightmare to do compared to most backlight repairs. Teardown went normal once you get all the various brackets, IR sensor and wifi out of the way. Each side has it's own wrap around bezel and the panel has side tabs that protects them. One thing I advise is pay attention to the corner L shaped brackets and bottom bezel brackets before they fall out once you take out the screws because they are a pain in the butt to align when you put everything together. Be careful removing the clear plastic stations that holds the defusers and panel away from the leds because they clip back in and never fit tight when reinstalling so I used a dab of clear silicone to hold them down. Take a picture of where everything goes and in what order you took it apart. The bottom bezel is a pain to line up to get the small screws in those brackets. Total time was about 8 hours. That's twice the time I usually spend on a backlight repair. There was one burnt out strip in the middle which caused the six blink error code. I rarely see Sony's come in for backlight repairs and that is good because they are never easy compared to most models.Comment

by tony359Hi all,
I am working on a sound processor, it tends to overheat so I fitted a fan inside. The fan is connected to the +15V of the PSU via a DC-DC converter based on the LM2596 to reduce the voltage to around 10.5V.
Unfortunately the analogue circuitry is picking up the noise from the fan in two ways:
1. The fan is close to the analogue section, the motor itself gets into the outputs so I'll have to move it somewhere else
2. Even with the fan running outside of the case, there is still some noise which is clearly going back to the processor via power line....2 Photos -
by MegaZACSurprisingly enough, this receiver doesn't have the DSP chip issue. The HDMI board does not get hot, and sound over HDMI works fine.
Regardless of the input, the right channel has noise that is clearly noticeable even on average volume level. The only cases when there's no noise is when VCR input is selected (some tracks on the board are damaged, maybe that's why), or if HDMI input is selected but nothing plugged into it. In all other cases, even when no input is connected I still have the noise.
There's some logic behind it. As soon as I select an input I get only left...-

by dkneyleDiagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.
Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about... -

by courtcircuitHello
I have since a long time a Philips HTS8010S/01 which has been old but was doing the job.
Since a few days, it starts by making a weird "static" nois when switches on for a few seconds to a minute and then works like a charm.
Noise loudly outputs from the 3 channels, even if no signal is sent by the controler.DVD to the subwoofer/amp unit.
I was thinking of a soldering that was starting to be damaged and that was only doing the job after a few seconds of heating, most probbaly on the power board
Removed each of tyhe boards
