Weird Custome Built 55" LED Monitor

    Got a weird one in..

It's a custome built 55" LED Monitor.. Just has DB15 and DVI hookups..

I push the power button and the LED Power Light goes GREEN, then RED after a few seconds.. After a min or so, the Power LED starts blinking red...

There were some loose pads on the TRACE side of the Power PCB. I fixed those and still have the same problem..

All the other components on the Power PCB and the "Main" video board look OK..

Voltages look OK.. I get around 175V steady on the LED connector

At this point, I am leaning towards a bad LED Strip, but I want to exhaust all other possibilities before I break it down that far...

It gives the led driver voltage on the board but I can't read it. Have you applied a signal. Some computer monitors turn off if no signal present.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

The Backlight LED strips seem to be connected in parallel and what you are seeing is perhaps an open string . Measure WRT GND the -ve pin voltage as you said you have 175V on the +ve pin.

If you have 175 volts across the led leads going to the panel the led's should light up unless the circuit is open, open led or open connection on a plug etc.

OK It does appear the be the backlight issue.. The LED Power light goes green and I can see a latent image on the screen from a laptop...

Andrew, can you simplify the WRT GND -ve thing??? Am a little slow this morning.

WRT GND.....With Respect To Ground....The RED lead on the -ve pin and the BLACK lead to chassis ground.....to check if you have return voltage to the Driver....NP (No Problem)

Yea, it's beginning to look like I may have to crack this puppy open..

                  Not looking forward to that...

On the plus side, I don't have to take off the plastic backing or the front bezel.. There is none.

Yes it ls looking like a possible led fault. If you measured Vled at 170V and the panel says 108 - 120V then it's probably the open circuit voltage.

That did it.. It was a bad LED strip.. Found a replacement that I could wire in and we're all good.

Using those suction handles makes taking off the largest panel a breeze.. I kick myself that I didn't get these sooner...

I am indeed.. They are a godsend!!! I bought 2 sets, the orange singles and the red duals.. I have used the orange singles exclusively as the panels I have been moving are 50" and lower.. I am wary about the red ones because the suction is pretty intense. But will likely use them on my next 70" +...

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

                                          Hello all,

I have a dell SE2416h monitor that power cycles at somewhat random intervals. When the monitor is first powered on after being off for a few hours, it lasts 15-30 mins before the first power cycle. After that, the cycles progressively get more frequent until the monitor cycles every few seconds.

I'm not sure what is causing this, but maybe something is overheating, causing the monitor to shut off? That would explain why it gets worse with time.

Now here is where things get weird (at least to me, this might be some some common symptom I've...

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.

                                          Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

Looking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.

I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.

When I saw the Craigslist post, I wasn't...
