Black horizontal lines on Samsung plasma TV

    Hello all
I have a Samsung plasma TV 42 inch which has black lines and strange pink color. What could be ba. Checked caps but it is not. When it is working I can hear strange noise as the old square TVs used to have.

You need to check the voltages at the various test points marked on the circuit boards and compare them to what is given on the white panel label.

    What is the model number?

      Model is Samsung S42SD-YB05.
Do you mean to test powerboard on the picture. Not sure if it is a power board failure

Without any voltage readings you really cannot say for certain what the fault may be.

The voltages given on the panel have test points you need to compare with that can be found on the Ysus, Zsus and power supply boards

        Manual available from here

The voltages mentioned here are: Vs, Va, Vsc and Ve. These are the 'Vital Signs' and are set for each Panel. The expected voltages are on the white panel label attached to the Panel.

I am no specialist, especially on Samsungs, but am I the only one that thinks those black horizontal lines are from the panel to buffer connectors not being seated correctly ? The lines sure look identical to my lines when this was the problem on my plasma...

It may well be the buffer connections although the lines appear to be an equal distance running down the screen. For all the buffer connections to be wrong would be surprising.
Also I believe the pink could be an ageing panel or the voltages need to be adjusted.

I would at least take some voltage readings and run the test pattern to try an narrow down the fault. But so far no further information has been forthcoming.

This set uses a plug to connect the panel to the buffer boards, not likely a connector seating problem. You might want to check the lvds cable between the main and control board, make sure it is seated properly at the ctrl board end.

Assuming all voltages are correct from the psu,a educated guess would be the control pcb..(the t-con of-sorts from a lcd) .These are hard work sets, with the sub-power supply board.Rule out buffer boards,as the lines are equal distance apart. These are very old sets too,but can still produce good results when working, much more reliable,(though complicated) than more modern offerings.
                  Good luck!
