Owner says this set was going OK when stored away for a year or so then when put back into service would not tune stations in properly. The tuner only gets to around 35 - 37% signal strength on known very good antenna input. I checked for anything obvious such as connection and dry joints and also checked PSU outputs which are all as they should be. As the reception is both broken picture and erratic sound it does seem to be purely a tuner problem so I looked for voltages in that area and measured 5v with nothing else showing. Don't know what should be there as my first experience of a tuner was with a "cats whisker" and last look at one was with interlaced fins controlled by a knob!!

Re: Sanyo LCD-32E30A weak tuner
OK managed to find a schematic showing tuner in detail and 5v is correct feed. Now to check associated components and would appreciate any comment on most likely cause of problem.Attached Files -

Re: Sanyo LCD-32E30A weak tuner
As I sometimes find the schematics can be misleading. On this one I note both pin2 and the last pin are not connected in the set, otherwise I have 5v where it should be but no real idea on following output signal. All earths are good and both resistors in tuner read OK. Pic of tuner section of board posted herewith.Comment

Re: Sanyo LCD-32E30A weak tuner
Now certain fault is in tuner itself as I found a couple of old boards with similar tuners and measured continuity from connector centre pin to pin1 on board but not so on this set. Problem is as can be seen in pic that even if I can get the tuner out OK there is a heap of stuff on underside of its board and unless something simple shows I will be no further ahead as I don't have same configuration in tuners I have as spare. Apart from this its a 9 year old set and I sell these going for $50/60.Comment

Re: Sanyo LCD-32E30A weak tuner
NI had cleaned inside connector as best I could but no change so today turned tuner itself side on to board by unsoldering the 4 external locating pins. This allowed me to connect to rf input on underside of tuner board but with same result of broken picture and choppy sound. Have now ordered replacement tuner from China as no joy at all when searching for a main board.Comment

by DXseekerMOI can hear Fred Sanford now...."YOU BIG DUMMY".....I pulled the "F" connector out of the tuner by accident. The tuner number is BN40-00248B. Low and behold I had a scrap board with tuner number BN40-00248A. Although the tuner is different (according to Encompass.com) it's footprint on the board is exactly the same as the 248B so I decided to de-solder the tuner off the scrap board to see what I was getting in to.
As you can see in the picture the terminals and solder pads are super small. No matter what I tried I could not get either the terminals or support... -
by Xenon-CodexWhat keeps the presets in the memory? There's no battery, but the memory lasts only 1-2 hours without power. Could it be that large capacitor?
The thing is a Sanyo JT760L, it has its own power but the signal etc were via a ribbon cable. It now has a RCA-jack....-

by cj_rehaHey all
I've been working on a 1984 Sanyo 27" color TV which had a smattering of bad caps in the video switching circuit. I found this oddball little 1uF 25V cap which looks to me like an early polymer, but I can't find concrete info proving it. I know Sanyo was a big player in early polymer cap development and this is the time period where they were just getting on the market, so I'm wondering if anyone has crusty old datasheets that could help identify it and determine if my suspicions are right? It has the same epoxy end seal and font/formatting as some old stock Os-Cons I've got laying...

by IerwinHello everyone,
I have a rather strange problem with this Philips I just repaired.
The set came with startup problems, I checked the PSU, found some puffed caps, replaced them and now it is starting perfectly.
According to the philips website this tv should be equipped with a tripple tuner.
However there is no option to scan for satellite channels in the menu.
It only shows the option to search for DVB-T or DVB-C channels.
The set is equiped with the F-type connector in the back so to me it looks like it is indeed equipped with a Sat tuner.... - Loading...
