I picked this TV up for free and the person admitted to spraying the screen with windex which then cause this problem. There were just a few lines but removing the bezel and frame caused more to pop up. I discovered that the yellow ribbon cable has separated and putting pressure on it cause almost all the lines to go away leaving what you see in the picture. I have since cleaned up all the corrosion caused by the windex. When pushing on a different yellow ribbon the large vertical bands go to one solid dark color but they never disappear so I'm wondering if the windex shorted a connection and cause the TCON to go bad as well?

You need good magnifying glass to inspect the boding and the copper traces to see if any conductor got eaten sway or not, and yes, it needs really good cleaning.Never stop learning

Re: Sony KDL-55ex720 tab bond problem and TCON?
Yep, I cleaned the corrosion off with a fiberglass brush. The some of the conductor got eaten away that wasn't under the yellow ribbon attached to the board. At this point the biggest issue is the yellow ribbon itself requires pressure on it to keep the lines from showing. It appears it itself has separated.Comment

Re: Sony KDL-55ex720 tab bond problem and TCON?
I think you can do anything because if you have to press on the tab, the tab itself is damaged, so you have to jump over the corrosion on th tab, but on the tab you can't solder with tin, only with silver paint, but there are too much traces damaged..Comment

Re: Sony KDL-55ex720 tab bond problem and TCON?
Actually it's not the tab. I have to put pressure in the middle of the yellow ribbon because there is a clear separation between the two layers of the ribbon as I can see the gap. If I push the two layers together then most of the lines go away. I was trying To come up with some sort of adhesive that I could use to seal the two ribbon layers back together but wouldn't be conductive shorting the traces in the ribbon.Comment

Re: Sony KDL-55ex720 tab bond problem and TCON?
You probably dont want to hear this but you wont be able to repair this
There are places that will rebond the tabs but at a cost of over $300 , for the age and size probably not worth itComment

by Daren87Hello everyone,
I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the... -
by thelankanguyThe TV shows a black screen with no image.
TCON ribbon connectors were disconnected individually for image and there was no half image even.
Later both ribbons were disconnected and TCON voltages were tested.
12V, 3.3V, 1.8V were seen present but VONE signal reads 0V.
There is also a short to ground in this circled inductor.
Is this a TCON issue or something else ?... -
by bbrainHi,
I have this problem with my Sony 55' AG9.
It flashes 4x.
I have found the service manual, and seems it is the TCON.
Before I buy a TCON can someone check the vid?
Thanks in advance!... -
by rimwallHi, hoping for some views on this one which I've not come across before. The TV generates an image that has 12 noticeable bands across it. The image is still there and accurate, but the colour (or perhaps the brightness) changes gradually across each band which creates a noticeable 'step change' at the edge of each band. Given it's a 4K TV with 2160 rows of pixels, I'm guessing the 12 bands correspond to 12 gate drivers of 180 rows each. If this guess is right, then perhaps:
a) all the gate drivers are malfunctioning the same way (which seems unlikely), or
b) the Tcon board is malfunctioning,... -
by x_orange90_xJust bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...
