i found out the model number. they're 42PD1609 's - professional units (no tv tuner, just monitors) and most likely come from an airport. this probably means they're somewhat burnt in.
guess i'll back out.

we got some plasma monitors in for service that were lesss than a year old.
they were brought in by a maintainence contractor.
when i told him that i had the monitors from dayton international airport ready for pickup he asked how i knew that.
real nice burnin of logo and other fixed text.
the ones you mention were likely rode hard and put away wet.

i mean is the technology progressing at all?

No change in tech on plasma panels. They burn as CRT do.

As far as burn-in is concerned will a plasma burn-in faster than a CRT?

I've only managed to burn in one CRT I have it was because for years I didn't adjust the vertical and horizontal controls. So the image never reached the end of the screen when I finally adjusted the controls I saw the burn-in.

Well the phosphors that weren't excited throughout the life of the monitor .

Your questions is not clear cut as you think. Too high settings or set up right and sitting in same spot too long is what u get. Set up right and keep image dynamic and no steady stuff too long even every few hours is sufficient.

The good practice is keep contrast/brightness DOWN yet maintain good pic. They were set up in torch mode on all CRT based and plasma stuff.

Plus keep image moving if cannot let it blank out like the airline stuff or blank the pic after a period of time.

My CRT monitors never had blanked or put to sleep because I set the brightness/contrast lower yet good image quality as I have stated, so no burn.

DLP, LCD and like don't have the kind of issue but HID lamps do lead shorter life if running too powerfully and is controlled how much power it is lit up via brightness control in user settings and turn it down a bit will extend the lamp long way. LCD not very much on their lamps, 60%-80% should be sufficient yet to keep them hot but not so overdriving or under driving them.

eh..have you ever seen channel logo burned in the screen with crt?
crt will eventually burn, sure, but plasma seesm to burn much faster...

Speaking of channel logos, etc, just WHY?!?!?!? I mean, people KNOW what channel they're watching don't they? It seems stupid to me.
