    Magnavox 37MF337B/37: Picture stretches/shrinks vertically

    The set was dead until I replaced several diodes and 11 CapXon and Liton caps on the power supply board.

    So now it's working! ... except sometimes the picture is alternately stretched and shrunk vertically (magnified and demagnified, if you prefer). It may happen several times per minute. Other times it happens not at all.

    I didn't change out any components on the logic board, and there are still some CapXons on the logic board.

    What would you say is most likely wrong?

    Here are some of its specs:
    * 720p, 480i/p
    * Maximum Resolution: 1366 x 768
    * Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    * Screen Format Adjustments: Automatic, 4:3, Movie expand 14:9, Movie expand 16:9, Super Zoom, Subtitle Zoom, Widescreen

    I would turn off "Automatic" in display format and see if it still does it, set it to something like Widescreen

      Try flexing the LCD frame to see if you can make it changes.

        Thanks for the replies.

        R_J, I set the Screen Format to Widescreen as you suggested, and the picture is now stable. So that's good.

        Is there a downside to leaving it in Widescreen? I notice that the factory default setting is Widescreen. I expect to use it mainly for over-the-air HDTV, and with a DVD player. I might use it with a computer through VGA or HDMI though.

        I wonder how the Automatic screen formatting is supposed to work. Will it depend on the quality of the signal? I'm using rabbit ears, and the reception is often flakey.

        budm, I guess you're thinking that the Automatic formatting is getting confused by a bad connection. Not sure what "the LCD frame" is. I guess it's not the same as the TV's case, and I would have to open the case. I did try to flex the outside case.

          Magnavox 27MS5402/17 CRT - no picture, flashing green light
          by sudz28
          I'm going to assume my beloved Magnavox CRT is toast, but also figured maybe this was a good opportunity to dip my toes into he circuitry waters and maybe learn something new. Also, I don't want to trash it if it's a fairly cheap/easy fix!

          My 20-year-old Magnavox has gotten me and my kids through many a gaming console change and worked great up until the other day. Following a long distance move, it sat in our garage for a year and now that I brought it in and turned it on I get no picture; instead, a green light blinks on the front of it; 7 flashes, one long flash, then 3 more...

          Magnavox 32MD350B/F7 getting a false on/off control voltage
          by barrybahr
          Hello,
          The unit is stuck in an intermittent on/off cycle. When I plug in the power cord, the green "On" light activates without any command, flashes for a few seconds, then turns off. The red standby light comes on for a few seconds before the cycle repeats. During this time, I cannot turn off the unit manually; it will shut off automatically after about five minutes, and there is no picture. Occasionally, with repeated attempts to power it on, I eventually get a picture and sound, which function properly. When it does work, I measure several voltages, and they appear to be normal....

          Hello guys. I need a replacement for UTC1316 or KA2214, in my country I can't get either of them, it is for an inexpensive radio recorder, there is no point in searching for it on e-bay or Amazon. Thank you

          Philips 70PUS7505/12 - Contrasts in image are echoed vertically upwards
          by Maalobs
          My mother's Philips 70PUS7505/12 TV suddenly began to display this kind of behavior:

          Contrast differences from a light area to a dark area above, become "echoed" vertically upwards.
          It's the same behavior with all colors as long as there is a relative contrast difference between them.
          There are no other issues; the backlight works fine, the Error code buffer is all zeros.

          I tried it on each HDMI-input, the result was the same.
          I tried in another resolution, still the same.
          I tried with three different sources;...
