    Optocouplers pc123

Have several power boards that have no power/voltage to the 'cold'side....could the pc123 optocouplers be the cause?
Tried testing and think I have several that are bad...any hints?
Have no voltages on the main board other than standby...

    Still learning....

      Thanks Bud...
      Vizio 37L HDTV10A
      Standby ok (amber)
No power when switched on...have 5.2v all three pins on connector....no other voltages PB# 0500-0507-0250
      MB#3637-0072-0150(2D)...F1-0v F2-5.2v
      U8 tests Ok...5.2/3.3/2.1
      U33,7,9,2 all 0v

Slowly learning...have several Vizio's with same symptoms...does the 'cold' side of PB remain 'cold' until the main board sends it a signal to 'turn on'?
Guessing my problem may be in the MB...
Thanks for your willingness to teach...

Need voltages from connector that goes from power supply board to main board. Will need pin#- PIN DESCRIPTION -Pin voltage in standby-Pin voltage when pushing power button and picture of connector on power supply board.
          Format:
Pin# - Pin Description - Pin Voltage standby - Pin voltage power on
          1 - XXXXXXX - XXv - XXXv
          2 - XXXXXXX - XXXv - XXXv
          3 - XXXXXXX - XXXv - XXXv
          4 - etc.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

Disconnect connector from mainboard side and insert 1k resistor from Pin1 to pin9 see if you get your 12v

If you are able to force on the rest of the power supply using the resistor then it means the power supply is OK, just make sure you disconnect the cable going back to the main board first before attempting the force on.
So far it looks like you have main board problem because it is not sending the PS-ON to turn on the rest of the power supply.

I got a free Polaroid flm 323 TV and I am assuming that the power supply is bad because I don't get any voltages like shown on Copp#ll tv site or youtubes. But I have it at the main cap. I already replaced a couple of diodes and tested the caps.

This is just for me to learn on and try to fix.

So I was wondering about the optocouplers. Took them off to test. Using a DMM I got nothing in diode mode up to 200k. My little lcr-t4 didn't find anything.

Using a tester i rigged up with a 3.7v battery, led and 1k res on breadboard and only one lit up and it...

Plastic welding machine repair and hints

hi, i have a welding machine with ultrasonics. it's REALLY old
btw since now i could use it without any trouble. now i have the HIGH POWER NPN TRANSISTORS MJ802 that keep shorting after 1-2 hours of using.
this board is powered with a transformer that from 220V give 55v, 6v, 12v

MY question is : why these transistors burn?

i wish someone expert can give me some hints and what to check on the board.
There are few components luckily. i am uploading photos of the board so you can have an idea. if something else is needed i can do measurements or else...

                        Hello All,

I am trying to repair my defective OnkyoTX-NR414, which won't switch on. Pressing the On button doesn't do anything at all, device stays dead.

I didn't do any voltage measurements with the receiver connected to the mains yet, just started with resistance and diode tests using the service manual as reference.

I already found a few suspects. The PSU pcb contains 2 Sharp PC123 optocouplers, that appear to be malfunctioning. Measuring out of circuit with my Metex 3650 on diodetest, on both optocouplers the fototransistor shows 'open' in either...

                        Hi friends,

firstly, I have to let you know, I am not working with DELL laptops often ( actually, I can't remember, if I was fixing some board issue on DELLs ). And now I got for repair one from my friend. He bought it as a not properly working one, and its history is almost unknown. The issue is, it can not boot. This is not important in this situation.

Now, let me clarify the confusion in the topic name - the friend claims, that the model is Precission 5540. And when I get into BIOS settings, I can see the service tag CMR4533, which indicates he is right. But during...
