Working on kdl-40ex600 have standby 3.3 no led.I jumpered standby 3.3 to power on with 1k resistor with wire that goes back to main board disconnected. There was no other voltages present measured main cap at 60v .Then I noticed on top tv burning smell and a little smoke coming out.this mean the panel is shorted out.

by EazyBonePicked up this Samsung above thinking it'd be backlights but it isn't. Now MAYBE I'll get lucky.
Found some shorted caps among the panel boards. Each cap along the line is shorted. On every board (3 panel driver boards)I disconnect each side right and left ribbons and they are no longer shorted caps and have about 1.5Mohm resistance (on left and right boards). The middle board has the main board disconnected and the caps are shorted. Last 4 pics show arrow to caps.
Now what exactly do I need to do in order to attempt to fix this issue?
do I have to take each one...10 Photos -
by mecha1166I have a customer set, QN55Q8FNBFZXA, with a shorted panel. I cannot find a replacement panel anywhere. Any tips on removing shorts? Where to get replacement? I will open it up and post more info. Panel part number seems to be: BN95-05037A or BN95-04717A (CY-TN055FLLV2V/H).
A model QN55Q80AAFXZA has a BN95-07415A inside, a model QN55Q7FAMFXZA has a BN95-03859A inside. Any compatibility info? I have been getting many shorted Samsung panels lately, even the traveling Mexican groups won't buy Samsung as scrap anymore, they tell me "bad panel." -
by Lee M.Has anybody tried to use IR night vision goggles or other thermal imaging device to find a shorted line in a ribbon cable going from a panel driver board into the panel? I would think the shorted line would get hotter than the other lines and might just show up on a thermal imaging device. Just wondering if anyone has tried this and if so did it work?

by reessiHello:
I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.
I started on the ACER:
Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.
I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap... -
by howardc6449UJ6500 LCD panel has a lighter band on top when first powered on. Goes away (or gets much fainter) after TV on for a few min. After powered off for awhile and power back on, same band appears. If powered on immediately after powering off, no or much fainter band. Running the latest firmware.
Disassembled the TV and lifted the LCD panel during testing. Band is on the LCD panel (can see the band on the panel as I lift it slightly) Backlight is perfectly even at the top edge. Double checked LCD panel alignment in the frame and is perfect but since band moved with the panel, its on... - Loading...
