Samsung UE32F5300 blank screen, backlight OK (bad t-con?)

Good day folks, so the title pretty much explains it: got this Samsung UE32F5300 which doesn't display any picture. The backlight comes on just fine (you can see it through the holes in the back), but there's no picture at all, no logo or anything. The TV appears to be working, because I can hear some beeps when using the remote, to which it responds perfectly as well. Entering the service menu made no difference (INFO>MENU>MUTE>PWR). Is it the T-con that's bad or perhaps the panel ? The fuse on the T-con is fine and I get 12v after it. Would it be worth buying a new Tcon for it or is the fault likely somewhere else ? :|

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, already tried that: nothing AT ALL, regardless of which one I pull out. Also, that T-con board is not upside down, so the ribbons going to the panel are at the bottom not the top

No, I haven't yet, though if that were the case, I would've expected to at least see some lines or artefacts or something...

yes true i guess but still might be worth checking just to rule it out as being faulty.

Check my RUNTK5351 thread out, common issue with these tcons.

Heeeey, you're right....I actually had this issue before and I remember that IC. I actually swapped one and managed to get a set going again....silly me Thanks for the refresher mate

Just measured the 3.3v test point and it's dead and so are VGH and VGL, obviously, so I'm pretty sure the ISL9860 is bad - nice and straightforward hopefully

Just replaced ISL9860 and same thing unfortunately. Even worse, it blew the fuse this time and I get a short between GND and that VCC1.2v test point, even with the ISL and FET201 removed. Admittedly, my mate didn't do that good a job at soldering the new ISL in place, so it's possible that some of the pins touched each other *gulp*...

Doh I always check them with a little scope to make sure nothing is shorted.

I did the same thing.......right after he tried it on and the screen flashed for a second before going black again. The chip was slightly askew and taking a closer look, I could see a few pins just about touching two pads at once, which might explain the blown fuse.

If there is no picture on the screen I always check the LVDS with a oscilloscope first. Just like Reecey already said.

I think he meant "scope" as in "loupe/magnifier", though an oscilloSCOPE would indeed be handy....don't have one of those yet, sadly

Seems you do quite a bit (so what I gather in this forum), so yes... at a certain point there is no excuse of not having one. It will take you to a different level of troubleshooting things. I certainly have to have one and without it I feel like something is missing. Also a little 'loupe' as or any visual magnifier is getting to be a must. Things are still getting smaller and unfortunately my eye sight isn't anymore that what it used to be either.

Sadly, scopes are still VERY expensive (at least where I live) and we're still a small business, so it would take quite some time before such a device would pay for itself...I'm thinking of getting my own scope, but can't really afford to blow so much money on one for the same reasons. That's all beside the point though - our main priority is this T-con board which I believe my buddy fried....will take the whole set downtown to a chap who has an identical T-con board to see if it at least fires up.
