    Samsung LE32R88BD LCD TV – No picture or sound

    Hello,

    The screen on this TV is totally black with no light around the edges, and there is no sound. The red power on light is blinking, but there is no clicking sound. I have changed the power supply board (BN44-00155A) for a tested recon one bought from a TV repair Co, but that has made no difference. I removed the T-Con board (320WTC2LV3.7) and noticed that IC17 and IC15 on it (circled red in the image) look to be leaking around the legs. Can a faulty T-Con board stop the sound as well as the picture? I have uploaded images of all the boards and would be grateful if any of the experts on here could advise me if they notice any other problems.

    Thanks.

    The picture of the Tcon is not well focused so cannot really see what you are referring to but I doubt if that's the problem.

    You need to take some voltage readings at the connectors on the power supply to see what voltages / control signals are missing.
    They are normally labelled so if you could give the label names and associated readings I'm sure help will follow.

      Thanks, Dick. I'll take a look at this when I get some time.

        Hello,
        I have attached the power supply readings for this LCD TV. I would be grateful for any help to identify the problem. Thanks!

          It looks like your Back light On signal from the main board is missing.

          Do you have a DVD player with SCART that you could plug in. When a SCART plug is in, the TV often automatically connected to the DVD so you should be able to hear sound.

          Also with a bright light shone on the screen look very carefully to see if you have a picture which I suspect you have if only the backlights are not working.

            I'll have to borrow a DVD player with SCART lead tomorrow. I tried it with a laptop with HDMI, but got nothing. Which of the reading indicates it could be the back light on signal is missing? If it is that, is there a fix?

              One step at a time.
              BL=0.04V backlights off
              BL =>3V Backlights On

                I have tried the DVD player with SCART lead on the faulty TV, but I get no sound and see no picture when I shine a bright light onto the TV. The DVD player does work as you stated when I attach it to a TV that is working.

                  Disconnect the main board from the power supply
                  Connect a 1K resistor from 5V Standby to PS
                  Connect a second 1K resistor from 5V Standby to BL
                  Do your voltages come up and your backlights come on.
                  If not try connecting the second 1K resistor from 5V standby to BLU instead.

                  If your backlights and voltages are there then it looks like a main board fault.

                    press the mute button etc on the remote control just incase someone has already muted the sound im sure this is one of the samsung models that used to suffer corrupt eeproms on them not sure if it would stop just the backlight i remember shorting pins 5 and 6 on theses ics to fix diffrent issues

                      Good point.
                      Or even the volume is turned down. Inputting via the SCART always works for me to check for sound, volume up, down, mute so that you know some of the set functions are working or not.

                        dick have you ever tried a scart lead between two tv sets does this prove anything in a situation like this? ie displaying a good picture on working tv if you have a source input on the faulty tv im sure i have read a thread regarding this in fault finding etc not sure it it works or proves anything though?

                          I have never tried it but like you have seen it in a thread on here.

                            I can see where I need to make the connections, but are there any images on here that show how to clip the resistor to the pins to hold them in place? Also, when the connection is made to BL, does the plug from the PS to the inverter still need to be in place?

                              when you disconnect the connector fron the mainboard end just push the resistor lead in to the connector socket just make sure you use the right holes/pins and yes leave ps to the invertor plug attached.
                              like in this picture

                                    Hello,
                                    I have carried out the steps above. I got no backlights when the 1k resistor was connected to either BL or BLU, and the power readings were as follows:
                                    PS (3.45V); SB (5.15V); BL (1.72V).
                                    BLU (1.72V and the other readings were the same as above).

                                    Thanks.

                                      I would think you have a backlight problem. You indicate that you have all the supplies 5V, 12V & SB
                                      Can you check you have 24V at both side of the white ceramic fuse on the inverter board just above where it says 125V/7A
