Appreciate the great advice. Actually have researched this site and asked for help before on this site and it has been much more helpful then go buy an OLED. I digress because I tell what this might lead to and I'm not that type of person so here are the facts:

Loud Pop and screen went black and no power. No blinkks on Red LED either I took back panel off and see no immediate sign on blown cap. So I'm basically looking for some advise as to where to start.

There are plenty of other things that fail in a TV other than caps. If it went pop something has failed and quote obviously I would suggest.
As per every thread. Decent photos will help us help you.

          Hi ,

What model are we talking about? 55GT30 or 55GT50? Big difference in boards!!!

Please take pictures of the boards inside. Upload them via "advanced" and the paperclip function.
If you don't have any standby led you either have a bad power supply OR mainboard. Because of the loud pop im almost certain it's the power supply but you never know.

The GT/VT50 use the same power supply , its a big yellow one. Please measure for 5V standby on the big white connector going to the mainboard. If you have 5V there and there is no standby led then your mainboard is dead. ?

I think you have this PS. Black prope on ground and red on J04. Do you measure 4.5/5v?

If not then you have a faulty power supply.

              Re: Panasonic Viera GT55 Plasma

              It's the Panasonic Viera GT5530/31

It has two power supply boards:

              A main one:
              Power Supply N0AE6KL00005

              Sub Board:

Sub Power Supply Unit N0AE6KL00009 (PS-317-F55)

Attached are my pics of the two boards.

                Re: Panasonic Viera GT55 Plasma

Ok , good chance only the power supply boards are bad. Worst case scenario is that it took the SC board out also. <-- hard to find but easy to repair with the right components.

Remove all the power cables from the Sub board going to the big power supply board. Only the mains are connected to sub board and measure the following:

Measure the outer pins on P55 in AC VOLTAGE ( Pin 1 and 3 ) --> Must be 120V for USA.
Measure the outer pins on P51 in DC VOLTAGE --> Probably starts at +/-50/60v and counts down because its not connected to the PS.

Ps , use a screw on the board as ground. Let me know what you measure.

Measure the fuse on the top side of the power supply , is it still ok? Right next to that fuse are 2 fets , Q301 and 302.
Both are "R6015ANX" , turn the power supply upside down so your looking at the back of the powersupply.

On the back you will find the same Q301 and Q302. Measure the outer pins in diode/continuity mode first. Beep is definitely bad! If you don't hear a beep then put the black prope on middle pin and red on the outer pins. If one of the outer legs beeps its bad.

These sets also work with the power supply from a 50inch model. ( TNPA5426 ) Not recommended but it works.

                Tell me what you measure!

                    Re: Panasonic Viera GT55 Plasma

Looking at the pictures it looks like your standby controller is failed, there are some signs of burning around the top left heatsink.

These are good sets and shouldn't be chucked out for an OLED unless the damage is fatal. They are pretty reliable, this failure was probably bad luck or a power surge.

Glad you fixed it! Make sure you tighten the screws on the sc board.

The panel will last for a long time , they are amazing tv's.
Dont forget to replace or tighten all the screws on all boards. They will be loose.

Yes it's very important before you put the set back together as these sets were sometimes shipped from the factory with incorrectly torqued screws. When the screws go loose it can damage the SC board.
